skifly
Ok - sod this work life balance stuff. How can anyone manage to fit in sorting stuff like presents for Valentines day for t'other half when they work stupid hours and away all week. The regular day is 8am --> 7:30pm in Edinburgh with a flight up the early hours of monday, returning on friday...!! So does anyone have any great ideas that I can preferably either pick up at the airport or order online from the hotel so i dont return empty handed on thursday eve? Opinions and ideas welcome but here are a few to kick off the discussion / get opinions?? - handbag / purse from the airport? Ideas on whats good to look for? - a trip down towards the cotswolds (any ideas great places to stay, probably with little village, pub etc but not in one of the larger cities?) - Some sort of spa treatment as she doesnt do the obvious flowers / make-up routine!! Well - hopefully someone can help otherwise it looks like no for me for a while!! NOT that that is what it is all about ladies!! also has a rather large part in this one! Cheers - Chris
DHA
Cotswold House Hotel is quite nice. Heathrow has some reasonable shops in T1 if you are flying from there.
JamesB
How about making the effort to fly back on Wednesday evening just to take her out? Anyone can buy stuff but gestures are so much more romantic.

skifly
unfortunately I cant get back weds nite - i have a CRP session on thursday morning but would have loved to have made the gesture... I am flying Edinburgh to city on thursday so would have to pick something up this end. Will take a look at the hotel DHA - I reckon it might be worth trying to book something for this, although it was a consideration some time soon for a trip away. skifly
erm... her birthday is soon so might consider the mulberry site then. Not sure i can stretch to those sort of prices after blowing over a grand on our ski trip a few weeks ago!!
lottiefox
Something she gets on the actual day - a card and a conversation would do me, and tell her that you miss her. When you get back, something a bit individual maybe, what sort of jewelry does she wear/like - this can be kept for years to come...voucher for a treatment at a beauty place maybe near to her, what about something you can do together like a hot air balloon trip or something nice? skifly
the hot air balloon trip sounds like an idea - esp as she knows i am not a fan of heights!! She has never worn any jewelery since i have known her and has given very specific instructions that if she is ever bought anything in particular (partially testing the water i think) that it would have to be a very good choice and i would probably need her sisters help!! I have to admit i am never a fan of flowers. I have her 2 cards, one to go to work and one for here, but i havent even managed to find a post box today, so hopefully RM are being good and can get me a delivery to central london by weds!! You don't believe her when she says that do you? HUGE boquet of flowers with an appropriate message, can't fail. Wonder what she's getting you..? lottiefox
I think in honesty, to me anyway, it doesn't have to be grand/extravagant...it just has to be genuine. And it sounds like it will be or you wouldn't be asking us bunch!! Do you know for sure she doesn't like flowers? I know they are a cliche but.....I have friends who would never normally like them but on Valentines Day they go into flower frenzy. Not me...of course. skifly
well this is the first valentines we have done together. We met just after valentines last year. I honestly have been wanting to spend all my free time that i can with her recently what with working away so i really would struggle to sort much without her finding out. I am pretty sure she doesnt like flowers as she has hayfever the same as me so generally is not keen on them.

Ari
See? Dave, this goes for you too! You don't care if she doesn't buy you a 911 GT3 for Valentines, but just think how pleased you'd be if she did! And yes, big bouquet of flowers on Valentines to a girl is roughly equivalent to a GT3* * except Lottie, where a GT3 for Valentines roughly equates to a GT3

skifly
so come on red - time to earn the Dr Love moniker!! Cant believe how expensive a hot air balloon trip is! I was hoping to be under the £100 mark for valentines day and still not convinced by the flowers at the moment. What makes it worse is she has sorted something for us on thurs nite when i get back, then over the weekend i have my parents down for the weekend and we are all going to see the lion king. So cant even do anything later in the weekend!! AAargh!
