STA3 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Share Posted February 14, 2007 Hey, I have got a problem with my ‘98 1.8T AGU which has got me stumped. A couple of weeks ago I noticed my temperature gauge was not getting above 80 even when sat in traffic and as low as 65 when driving. It used to be rock solid at 90. As the service was due I asked my independent Audi center to check the coolant sensor whilst carrying out the service. They called back to say a VAGCOM error showed a sensor fault and replaced it with a green cap one. During the service they disconnected the battery. I picked the car up and drove home, the temp gauge is still low (faulty thermostat ?) and the idle speed now has a problem. When the car is stationary the idle is steady at 8000rpm, if I am moving and take the car out of gear the idle drops to 4000rmp and hunts around between 4000 and 6000 until the car stops moving and then it jumps up to 9000 before settling at 8000 where it remains steady. Sorry this post is a bit long but trying to give as much info as possible. I’m sure it has something to do with them disconnecting the battery as I’ve had the car for 4 years never disconnected the battery and never had a problem, any ideas?
