Good stuff Az, I look forward to hearing what its like. When I had my GTI Revo's from 197BHP to approx 240 BHP was the difference was amazing - well worth it 169144-ok.gif

....Exactly as I have done - 197 bhp to approx 245 with 300 ft lb (Stage1). I'm expecting the Bluefin to be extremely similar to the Stage1 Revo.

I haven't quizzed Revo directly but it has to be realised that rolling road numbers are so dependent on so many factors and need to be taken with a pinch of salt imo. 255 bhp is probably the max that their Stage1 has achieved but I don't know for certain.

I can tell the difference in driving a 250 bhp and a 270 bhp Mk5 GTI but doubt if I could differentiate a 245 from a 255 for example - Could anyone else? Personally I'm more concerned how a car feels to drive (driveability) rather than the numbers. However, I accept that there has to be some kind of numerical yardstick and that many tuners' customers want the high numbers. Me? - I've got an extremely enjoyable but good performance drive and I don't care very much what the numbers are as long as the car remains reliable and within its limitations.

First things first

Installation.

This is a very simple procedure. Take the Bluefin out to the car and plug it into the OBD port, this was quite a tight fit. The Bluefin prompts take you through the procedure and then it takes about twenty minutes to get the original map downloaded.

Next , install the software. Had some problems here in that the software supplied with the bluefin is not the latest and does not work when trying to download the modified map. I rang up technical support and Simon had a new version emailed to me within 5 minutes. This will probably be available for download from their site, version 2.0.0.6

5 out of 5 for technical support.

It takes about twenty minutes to copy the map to the bluefin device.

Next plug the Bluefin into the car, again follow the prompts and wait another twenty minutes. While the map is being flashed on the car the PNRDS on the highline flashes.

When finished then switch off ignition and remove the bluefin.

As far as I know the bluefin takes your original map, modifies the bits it needs, and then flashes that back into the ECU. The original map has therefore been over written by this one.

The orginal map is then held on the bluefin device so you can revert back to standard when required.

Driving

So I turn the key and she fires up, good start and off I go. Took it easy for the first 10 minutes or so until she warmed up. The car just seemed to drive like before at slow speeds.

First test, onto the slip road to take me to the dual carriageway. Selected 2nd, DSG in manual and buried it. Really smooth power delivery and really fast pick up. Rev counter kisses the redline and DSG selects 3rd OMG this thing is quick. The speed warning goes off on the dash, its set at 100, and I lift off and paddle change into 6th. Nice….. the_finger.gif

Nailing the throttle in 6th gear at about 2000 revs it feels like you are in fourth. You can really feel yourself going into the back of the seat.

The power delivery is smooth with no sudden surges, just like before but with more shove. The speed warning keeps going off, oops. slap.gif

Overall with a short test I can highly recommend the bluefin, I have never driven any other chipped Golf MKVs so it is hard to compare with other products. I did drive the ED30 a week or so ago and this feels a lot faster. But to be fair the ED30 had only 450 miles on it.

Time to go for another play 169144-ok.gif

It was £599 - 10% = £539 . 10% off for being a member of the UK-MKIVs forum. Maybe tyresmoke have a similar discount.

Went out for another run and just a few things to add.

DSG in D mode is much less inclined to change down now, I assume because of the extra torque. Going up a hill from a sharp right hand bend, I drive regularly, it selected fifth where normally it would have selected fourth.

The DSG really works like a dream with this map. The changes are so smooth and lightning fast when you hit the redline. The response low down is still very good and then a smooth delivery of power from 2000 revs up. Pulling away from a standing start also seems better.

Reverse gear is now a laugh, caught me out the first time, I'll be a bit gentler on the throttle from now on.

Where did you find that discount on uk-mkivs? I'm a member on there. Mentioning a discount should swing things in my favour with the keeper of finances 169144-ok.gif

Does anyone know how this will affect things like a service? In other words, if i were to book my GTi for its 2 service, which i will have to do in about 2mths time? If they spot something has been done to the engine/ECU, etc, what might they do or say, lol??

....I think that the Bluefin, like the Revo, is switchable so you switch to stock ECU at service time. It's best to be honest with your VW dealer - Mine has no problems at all with my car being remapped. Re insurance - You really must tell them or risk invalid insurance and much worse in the event of a serious accident involving injury or loss of life.
