AndrewEdward
Does anyone have any idea (without ripping the wheels off) how one might make the callipers red again, or even a service, etc that might do the job? Cheers
rhardy22
I re-painted mine with red hammerite paint on my old 25th anni..........
RedRobin
"Without ripping the wheels off" - ?? Surely you'd want to remove the wheels (easy) to fully access the calipers and do a less fiddly job.
mikemod
Yea, the best way is to take the wheels off, give them a good clean with some mild soap, not alloy wheel cleaner, and then give them a good coat of wax. I did this and mine are still a nice deep red colour after two years and 24000 miles
clown
Mine are like new after 20,500 miles and 20 months of motoring always clean them when washing the car, apart from one or two chips the colour is still bright. There is no way even with the Monza2`s you could NOT do a descent job, just remove the wheels very easy.Just follow the procedure in your manual for a safe operation. AndrewEdward
Errm, asking me to remove the wheels and putting tjem back on would be like asking a priest to have sex!! (i know, bad analogy) I just drive cars, don't ask me how they get from A-B, lol..might ask the dealer next month at service..

petsy
[ QUOTE ] Shocking. [/ QUOTE ] he probably doesn't check his oil level either...
AndrewEdward
well, in fact i did, no more than 25 min ago actually; check it usually about twice a year. That said, i'm learning every day; having a GTi is such a laugh. On a more serious level, yes, i will admit i know precious little about the mechanics of the damn thing, then again, do i need to, very reliable, quick, pulls babes (well women anyway) and beats the pants off most car, except the Honda NSX that crushed me last week!!!!!!!!! RedRobin
....Err - are you serious?? I know very little about messing with the inner workings of a car but I know how to check the oil and liquid levels, tyre pressures, and do so on a very regular basis - Either very dangerous or stupid not to. As for changing a wheel, what are you going to do if you get a puncture? I'm sure any girlie you pick up will be most impressed! Not!! OzGTI
I'd be happy just to be able to wash the car, let a lone the calipers, which I agree do need cleaning. We are in the middle of a drought here and car washing is very, very much forbidden and has been since January 1st. Don't know when there will be enough water in the dams to get the car washed again.
