bells0
My renewal on the cab is due on 26th March. I have a claim from April 2nd 2004, which was quite a big fault claim, and whilst i was in a company car. I will start my searches in a week or so for new policy, but am fairly sure if i can renew as over 3 years [would be April 2 2007] i may get cheaper quotes from those companies that quote on 3 years past claims? I am currently with Admiral. Should i just renew for the 7 days, then cancel and then go with [hopefully] a cheaper company? Am sure they will penalise me for cancelling and not refund the pro-rata amount back? Any advice would be very handy!
Insurance Jon
The only people who can answer that is Admiral, but the cancel charges should mentioned in the documentation acompanying your renewal. Be careful though some companies want to know about 5 years claims! And make sure you get the quotes before you cancel the other policy
skifly
surely the claim will go against you on your work policy and shouldnt affect your personal policy??
Calm Chris
[ QUOTE ] surely the claim will go against you on your work policy and shouldnt affect your personal policy?? [/ QUOTE ] No way Hose' Any claim must be declared. Have a dig in the wife's car, on her insurance and you must declare it on your policy. Same with work accident in a work car, must be declared on your policy. You only lose the NCB on the car insurance that is used to settle the claim, but you will get a hike in premium on other policies. The telling words on the insurance policy proposal tend to ask "Have you had any claims or convictions in the last 5 years"- Key word is "Any"
Markpaq
FYI - Privilege only want to know about the last 3 years for claims (5 years for convictions).
graemep
Isn't there a 14 day cooling off period with any finance/insurance product?
Insurance Jon
yes but it isn't necesseraly (sp) free, some are, some are pro rata, some are a fixed time on risk charge and some are both.

shark_90
Use a company like TempCover for the few days cover, and then look for insurance on 3rd April
Thorburn
could you not insure the car through a per day insurance company for the week and then take out the policy after the accident has passed the 3 years?
EssFour
[ QUOTE ] Isn't there a 14 day cooling off period with any finance/insurance product? [/ QUOTE ] This is a statutory right so if they want to play silly buggers tell them you will go straight to the FSA. They will soon play a different tune. Recently had my old insurer try it on after they renewed my policy and I wanted to cancel it after finding a cheaper policy. They came with standard cacellation charge, pro rata tom foolery. I then quoted the rule regarding the 14 day cooling of period at which they duly complied and my policy was cancelled..
