UK Number Plates....

The subject of how UK plates in particular, being so fecking large, spoil the beauty of a good looking car keeps coming up in threads and irritating some people. So I thought I would start a separate thread.

There seem to be an increasing number of cars that look gorgeous but which haven't accommodated a position for UK registration plates. The result is a tacked on plate which frankly interferes with the aesthetics of a machine of great beauty. The new Maserati, Evo X, Alfa, are just a few examples.

Now that ANPR technology exists surely the plates need not be so huge. I expect that it's like British Summertime being a hangover from WW2 and numerous other pieces of UK legislation which are well out of date - I shan't be holding my breath.

If we're all going ot have to have road pricing anyway, regardless of public opinion, rather than spend lots on money on number plate reading cars, then having to prosecute people with non-standard plates, why not just scrap plates and have transponders fitted to new cars at manufacture and older cars at MOT.

Within three years, nobody needs numberplates, and inductive loop RF readers in the road have got to be cheaper than millions of cameras and GPS units...

grin.gif If you're not keen on the big front number plates in the UK then just put a smaller one on - I did for my VX220 Turbo, it was perfectly legible, just smaller and fitted the look of the car much better 169144-ok.gif
