jeremyadamson
Hi chaps - long time since I've posted on here!! I've decided my next car is going to be a Z4M Coupe. Looking at used ones on the BMW site...cruise control is something I use alot and something hardly any of the cars on the site had it fitted at the factory. Question is, does any one know if it's possible to fit it retrospectively, preferably with the OEM control stalk etc? Cheers, J.
jeremyadamson
Chaps - think I may have found out the answer to this one. BMW do a kit to fit it retrospectively...and from what I can gather it costs about £150 which sounds very reasonable. The pisser from my perspective is that there seems to be alot of opinion that it won't fit the Z4M derivatives....only the standard Z4s. Arse!! Cheers, J. gizze
I think it has to be specced at the factory. You should be able to do it but you may find you need a new steering wheel ring too that has the right connectors etc. which is why it says it is not retrofittable on your car. [/ QUOTE ] I'd be amazed if a BMW dealer will retrofit anything for £150 Wouldn't worry if it doesn't work for the ///M, since I'ms sure they meant £1,500 Peter
JAYDR32
Early production cars had the wiring harness for the cruise control pre-fitted; installation is just a matter of adding the last bit connecting the stalk to the steering column. Cars from 04 onwards and the M-cars don't have any of the hardware installed, so installation requires running from the stalk through the firewall into the engine bay. jeremyadamson
Hi all - this all sounded very complex...so i've just bought one with it fitted from the factory! Call me an old coward!! Cheers for all the help, J.
gizze
I have to admit, I never get why people want cruise in a BMW manual, they have a hinged pedel which is so comfortable compared with most Audis that you don't even know you have your foot on it when crusing anyway. jeremyadamson
Ah well ya see....I've had it in most of my cars and I find it very useful on long trips...regularly do Edinburgh to Bournemouth in the middle of the night...just means I don't exceed the limit (by much!) and my right foot doesn't get tired from sitting in the same position for 6 hours! Each to their own... J.
gizze
On an Audi I totally understand, I get cramp after 2 hours, but I have done Norwich to St. Tropez and St. Tropez to Norwich in one go so many times now and never used the cruise control. Drinks fuel too.
