prt57
Hi, I'm in the middle of sorting out GAP for my new S3. Do any of you know what % value will remain for the S3 after 3 years so that i can work out the amount of cover needed? Thanks, prt57
stevie_d
Not sure on an exact figure, but I'd guess it would be over 50%. 8L S3's are still going for £15k and they're over 4 years old...
h5djr
Remember you only need the GAP insurance to cover the difference between what your own insurance company will give you if it's a write-off or is stolen and the original invoice price or the cost of a new one depending on the type of GAP insurance cover you go for. gizze
You will only need £10k at the most, and make sure it is return to invoice not just gap, plain gap is a waste of time if you think about it. You want to pay around £200 max for it too, or £5 a month if who you are using to finance the car does it this way?
prt57
I was thinking that about £15,000 would be suitable as I was going for the new for old policy over 3 years. It is not much more than the return to invoice price. My car was £28,500 to buy. prt
gizze
Yeah I guess £15k in you do return to invoice, I would always choose this instead of a new for old policy, what if you get to 35 months and you have already ordered a new car or you fancy a change? I would rather have £28.5k back than £29k's worth of S3 again.
prt57
Been reading the Surf and Protect GAP limits to liability and come across a phrase that needs a telephone call. "If the insured vehicle is stolen by any person who has access to the keys of the insured vehicle" If someone broke into your house they may have "access" to the keys. If you were mugged for the keys, once again they would have access to the keys. My wife who is a solicitor says that these type of occurences are not what the exclusions are on about. I still think that I will enquire!! prt57
CarMad
We had this recently in a post for the Will22 who had 3 cars stolen at force only a week ago. This is to cover relatives stealing your car or if you leave them in the ignition warming it up or when you go in to pay for petrol for example. Your better half is right afaik. prt57
You are right CarMad, I spoke to Surf and protect today and they confirmed what my wife and you are thinking. Your ordinary car insurance company does all of the research into the incident to check for fraud etc and if they pay up, Surf and protect will pay up too. Apply on the telephone for a 4 year new for old and you will get a 10% discount. You cannot do this on the website. prt
Quattrophenia
I've just got Return To Invoice for my S4 through Click4Gap. One thing to point out... if you are like me and tend not to keep your cars too long there is ABSOLUTELY no point in getting a 3 or 4 year GAP/RTI contract... at most you will need £10K (cars depreciate quicker when new). I got 2 years RTI with £10K cover for £162. I know I will not keep the car longer than this and subsequently the finance contract will be settled early.
