BigMeanBob
Anyone know how these actually work. Mine seem to have became ridiculously sensitive in the last few months to the point of annoyance...i.e. will frequently run continuously when there is very little rain at all. Was wondering if the area used by the sensor was dirty, but can't for the life of me work out how they actually function to remedy this... b0b
Gti_Fly
Well the rain sensor is the bit where the rear view mirror attatches to the windscreen. From the outside, its the black circle. I guess if this gets stone chipped, it might effect the performance of the rain sensor. Even still, the rain sensor was always pants from the start.. U know how to set it's sensitivity right? The little 3 position toggle switch on the right stalk is the sensitivity setting.. 1-3. Having said that, I've read on VW vortex how u can actually disable the rain sensor and go back to the old school intermitant wipe function. You have to buy a normal intermitant wiper RELAY for a normal mk4 golf, and fit that in place of the rainsensing Relay. The part no I don't have anymore, but I did enquire about the price, and it was £25 from VW.
Rocket_Man
Try changing the blades. Mine did the same before i changed them. I put it down to them not clearing the window properly
Mook
I'd agree with Rocket. My wipers are as good at cleaning the screen as a bag of lard at the minute and the auto-sensors have got a life of their own.

[/ QUOTE ] Totally agree, can't get to grips with what they want to do at all. Mook, is it a coincidental name or have I followed you from the LCR forum in a former life ? Tumbletop
Does anyone else find they start off ok (on minimum sensitivity), then maybe you go past a truck on the motorway and the spray causes it to go on full time which is fair enough - but then they never go back to intermittent, no matter how dry the screen gets? I find myself "resetting" it all the time.
BigMeanBob
I'll try some new wipers....was needed to do that anyways... I've tried fiddling with the switch on the stalk, but that appears to make no difference at all (I assumed that was solely for the time delay on the intermittent sensor). I'm surprised that it's not possible to switch offt eh rain sensor with VAGCOM though. The sensor doesn't need to be on, as it will default to 'regular intermittent' if the car is started with the stalk in the intermittent position (but will immediately reset back to rain sensing if you move the stalk)... b0b

[/ QUOTE ] Never owned a Seat, so yes, it's coincidental that someone else has hijacked my name...
