Smudge
Off to Amsterdam with the GF in 2 weeks, my first ever visit! We've got a couple of things planned, including dinner at the Supper Rooms (linky to reviews) one night, but has anyone got any specific recomendations. And I don't think any hookers will be required thanks!!
R32Geordie
Aye the Sex Museum is a good laugh (if you're both open minded). Do a canal boat ride, it's a bit touristy but gives you a nice aspect to the city. If you buy a stripenkaart (strip of tram tickets) make sure you stamp one more ticket than the zones you pass through. i.e 1 zone = a stamp on the 2nd ticket. Remember that your stamp is valid for an hour, so you can jump between trams for free!! I found the Van Gough museum better than the Richts (spelling?). Another great trip is the Heineken Experience - if you like Heiny this is a lot of fun. My fave Coffeeshop is called "The Rookies" The windmill above houses a bar - a bit off the beaten track but easily accessible by tram 5 mins from the throngs of tourists. It's called Brouwerij T'ij and has it's own brewery inside. You gotta just have a wander round the RLD - at night its safer than during the day cos it's full of tourists gawping! Oli
There are some fantastic Thai restaurants there - 3 streets up from Dam square, past Ricks Cafe - Well worth a visit. As previously mentioned, the canal boat trip is really worth it, I have been to the Dam 30+ times and every time I go whether it is with the boys or my wife, we always do it. My recommends of coffee shops are; Rick Cafe - This was closed when I was there last month!!! Green house Coffee shop 36 - good atmosphere, and pool table. and the best BABA's.(just ast the Grasshopper on the right). Try a space shake or cake - share one with your missus, or couple of mushrooms - will really enlighten your experience. Always ask the guys selling the gear what they would recommend, you will always get the best stuff. Have a good wonder through the RLD, it is a real eye opener. Dont bother with the sex shows, they are all a bit fake
pingpongpo
How can the sex shows be fake if he is giving her the 'what for'? I know there aren't any money shots but it is still real sex albeit set to Prince music

Went once and there was this young couple on the stage, she was really fit and nice looking, not the normal type, but this guy couldn't get it up. She was pulling his cock like you would when stretching a balloon before blowing it up and it still wouldn't budge lol.
Vagabond
A classic case of stage fright, by the sounds of it

Oatz
I took the other half for a weekend in the Dam for her 30th birthday back in November as she'd never been before and was desperate to go. We flew into Schiphol, went straight to the hotel and dumped our bags (Dam square) then headed onto the supper club. Had a great time but be prepared for a larger than average bill at the end of your 6 course meal (circa. £300+). Oh and just to pre-warn you the last course is served at about 1 a.m. (so be prepared for 6 hours of debauchery). The food was fantastic and worthy of its Michelin star, oh and make sure you don't take a table but a seat on one of the beds. Also everyone seems to smoke dooby doo and there is a conveniently located coffee shop next door to top up on supplies, should you wish. Top tip - make sure you don't get locked out of the supper club and spend half an hour in a T-shirt freezing your arse off banging on the door trying to get back in whilst groups of dodgy looking people wander past eyeing up your Rolex..... On the Saturday we went for breakfast at Barneys coffee shop (run by Brits and serves a mean hangover greasy spoon cure) and a mooch around the flower market etc. In the evening we walked off the beaten track and had an amazing sushi extravaganza! ("An"). Would highly recommend it if this is your type of thing. And we then spent the rest of the weekend walking around all the jewellers trying to find her a present..... She now wants us to move there....
Smudge
Out of interest, where have people stayed hotel wise? When I did some searching it appeared you paid alot, for not very much. I'm used to getting very comfortable rooms in 4* hotels in Barca for about £70 a night. I know its a bit late for the w/e, but we could check a couple out that some might recomend whilst we're there. Cagey
I stayed here on a Stag weekend a couple of years ago. Clean, good sized and comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast and a good location. http://www.nh-hotels.com/nh/en/hotels/the-netherlands/amsterdam/nh-city-centre-amsterdam.html

Well placed too - close to the centre without being to busy. I can also recommend the Swissotel on Dam Square, the Hotel Amsterdam (next door to the Swissotel), the NH Caransa on Rembrantsplein and the Albus Grand on Vijzelstraat. Oli
Depends, wether you want flash - Krasnapolski is the best, or back packer - The Travel Inn is excellent value, and I have stayed here numerous times on a lads weekend. When I went in January, I satyed at the Rho hotel, which was OK but good value @ £60 per night for two of us, including breakfast, and had an underground car park - It is also situated right in Dam square.
