Merlot
Not a silly suggestion. I've previously owned a 3200GT and the idea of another Maser coupe appeals but which car is better? Evo came in the post this morning and an article puts the Maser's kerb weight at 1880kg and, therefore, the power to weight ratio the same as the S5. Interesting....the Maser has looks, sound, heritage and rarity but is £30k more than an S5. A fair car for the S5 to compare with?
mark88
Not really a fair comparison if one costs £30k more than the other IMO.
Merlot
You are right, the Maser is out of its depth.
ahaydock
S5 all the way!
EssFour
Without a shadow of a doubt it would have to be the masser. Rarity, heritage, looks, engine note. The S5 looks good but compared to the masser......... But from a pricing perspective not a good comparison also I am a secret Masser lover. Merlot
The Maser is so lardy.
EssFour
The S5 is not exactly svelt itself. The Masser has more road presence. When people see the S5 it will not leave as lasting an impression as the Masser.
Merlot
I agree with the latter but 215 bhp/tonne is not enough for £75k.
EssFour
It all depends on how it is delivered and how much of it you can actually used. Porsche 911's do not exactly have spine tingling bhp/tonne figures, unless its a turbo. But because what it does have is coupled to a good chassis and drivetrain they are hard to beat on the road. The example being the TG review of the Aston, M6 and 911. The M6 had a better bhp/tonne figure but was 6 secs slower during a romp through the IOW, even the vmax was less than the porker. The power was undoubtedly there but not all of it was useable. I am not putting down the S5. In my opinion the Masser is prettier, has more presence and will hold its value a lot better than the S5. They way they drive? Well neither of us are in a position to comment at the moment. As I stated before they cannot be compared due to pricing. MarskeBear
masser masser masser
Woppum
My brother has jst put an order down on the Masser. The looks seem to sell it alone. I just hope they bring out a Challenge version - that would be right up my street... if i could affod it.
sbgwz
IMO if you have the funds and you want the masser go for it youl definatley get a lot more looks in it and it will just feel that bit more special
shark_90
The S5 will start in a morning.

EssFour
Maserati appear to have got their stuff together in recent years and I'm sure most people's view Italian cars are based their past and group all of them in the same category. Unreliable, unpredictable etc. Give me a Masser any day.

Merlot
My 3200GT would start after a month of sitting in the garage - big battery. Mind you it was the only car I have ever had that has been put on a low loader before my eyes (more than once too!).

[/ QUOTE ] My old 3200GT had over 230 bhp/tonne. What amazes me is that Evo and Car are going ape about the Maser without having driven it and without commentating on the high weight and the fact that Audi are launching a similar car with the added weight of 4WD but still coming in 250kg less. PS I think the new M3 is sub 1650kg as well (is it?).

[/ QUOTE ] Not if it is all usable. It is not necesarily about monster bhp/tonne figures. Look at the M6 monster bhp/tonne figure but not all of it can be applied. The M6 has about 100bhp/tonne more than a 911 but is not as quick in the real world. Lets wait and see befroe judgement is passed.
