Pincher
Just reading Clarkson's column in the Sun this morning and there was a little piece that said [ QUOTE ] After last week's Top Gear, the continuity announcer said the show would be back in the summer. Can I just say, here and now, it won't be. [/ QUOTE ] I wonder if it really is the end, or just that it will be back later in the year?? NeilB
I have to say after this series I've only enjoyed the Brera/RX8/TT show along with the USA special, and that's it. It's far to scripted and silly these days.
Woppum
Can hardly believe that is it. Its so popular worldwide. It seems obvious however JC wants to be taken sersly as a journo outside the motoring world. Maybe he wants to quit on a high to open up other oppertunities. I just hope he dosent become the new Michael Winner!!!
Dave
They've never had a summer series as far as i can remember.. it's always the Autumn that they open with.. so hopefully it'll be business as usual.. saying that, didn't they have problems with the locals on the air field and were being asked/forced to move.. that would mean the track would have to be different and means starting all the lap times again. NewNiceMrMe
Unusually, bar the first episode, I enjoyed this series. Ironic then that it could be its last. However, if it is, it'll be a matter of seconds before some satellite channel snapped them all up, nicked the format and relaunched it. So I wouldn't be too worried. Dave
I agree (is that a first Chris? ) There is big demand for motoring programmes and if Top Gear doesn't do it them something else will take it's place. You also have to remember that Clarkson is getting on in years and he will have to be replaced at some time.. maybe it is time for new presenters and format? NewNiceMrMe
Lets put it this way, with the audience it gets on terrestrial TV, there will be satellite channels praying it stops airing so they can pay millions to Clarkson & Co to move to them....and bring millions in ad revenue with them. Its the type of audience reach satellite channels pray for.
SamD
I suspect that it will be back, the BBC would be shooting themselves in the foot if they canned it. Isn't Hammond tied to the BBC now? Could be an issue with another channel snapping it up?
Speedywheels
You guys just don't get it. Surely you'd prefer your TV licence fee to be spent on the next series of Celebrity Basket Weaving, Bellenders and oh yeah, repeats of Are You Being Served (because they've got a valid excuse right now)
Ari
The problem is, if Clarkson wants out there's very little they can do. He's walked away from it before (when it was the old format). And whilst in theory they could keep the format and use someone else, in reality I fear it'd be like Have I Got News For You when they had that season without Paul Merton, if just didn't work properly. Lets face it, Top Gear is really The Clarkson Show.
NeilB
[ QUOTE ] You guys just don't get it. Surely you'd prefer your TV licence fee to be spent on the next series of Celebrity Basket Weaving [/ QUOTE ] Well the Celeb part of Top Gear is a waste of time now, just used as a plug rather then having petrol heads like Rowan Atkinson, Steve Coogan etc... on. Can we have it back how it used to be with the banter and the car reviews?
Dave
I think the disappointing bit for me is that in a one hour program there are less car reviews than used to be in the old half hour program. The last decent review i remember is the RS4 one in southern France.
Ari
That was awesome, I managed to record that onto DVD
CarMad
I'd hate to see it go, the more car shows on the better good and bad. Well all except that one on Sky One that was worse than shocking. The RS4 was a great review, best for me was the CSL test on the Isle of Man.... that was excellent. Clarkson does make the show but its all of them as a package that make it at the moment. sayerbloke
[ QUOTE ] its all of them as a package that make it at the moment. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. All three of them are important and losing any one of them would be a major disappointment. Also, he doesn't mention if it is the end of TG, whether it's because the BBC have chosen to stop making it or if the team responsible for making it are calling it a day. It may well not be available for another channel to just buy up the presenters and the format if they are the ones who want out. That said, I suspect it's just a case of the show being back in the autumn rather than the summer, as others have suggested
ChadW
Top Gear normally runs from Oct to XMAS then another series gets shown from late May to July, guess with the delayed series from last Autumn being on now they are not bothering with a summer season this year. Or maybe it is the end.
_Tone_
I am hoping this will not be the last series - I was surprised how short this one seemed - what was it 7-8 episodes? Thats just not enough if you ask me. The RS4 in France was an outstanding episode which I still have recorded somewhere on my media center pc. Dave
The best ever review on top gear was when they took 3 supercars down to the Millau bridge. It was a stunning piece of film from every angle. The team that worked on that episode should get an award.
Botang
Yep the bridge one was fab They seem to have cut out some of the great filming now too like the super slow motion wheels spins, etc. I think the BBC are getting a bit fed up with all the whinging about health and safety, the environment, driving expensive cars, dangerous driving and the like. It'd be a real shame to see it go but now its all based around the track its lost a little bit of its appeal anyway.

[/ QUOTE ] The 911 Turbo review was done on the road... but right now I am struggling to think of any other ones that were from this series. I'd like to see more reviews done out in the real world. They could still hand it over to the Stig afterwards; That way you've got road and track covered
RedRobin
"All good things must come to an end" is an old expression. I hope it doesn't, but one day it will. Although JC is the 'main man', it's very much a team effort and Hamster and May play very important parts. Their banter is awesome - Very Tyresmoke-like at times. Personally I prefer that the majority of the prog deals with car news and reviews - out in the real world, as sayerbloke says - but the other stuff provides great entertainment. 330dcoupe
Don't worry - The other channels will be queuing up to sign top gear, if the BBC doesn't want them...Chanel 4 for one will deffinately throw their hat in the ring - they need audiences back after the BB debicle this year. But I highly doubt that the BBC will drop something which pulls unprecedented audiences each week. The missus works for the BBC - so i'll try and get some inside info
