Dell won't power up

I went out earlier and left my Dell 8250 running a backup onto my NAS.

It only partially completed and now the Dell won't turn on.

The power button just flashes when I try to fire it up. I've unplugged it etc but nothing seems to work.

It could be the PSU but I'm concerned it could be the motherboard.

Any similar experiences or ideas for me to try? crazy.gif

Just looked and it could be anything. Blinking amber light apparently points towards a hardware problem. It could be HD, a card or the mother board or a PSU issue. I'd turn it off take the power out from it and trying in an hour / the morning and see what happens. If its still the same, try another HD if you have one or check the cables to everything to make sure they are ok. 169144-ok.gif

I've tried the power off/remove cmos etc and it's still the same.

I've also checked all the cables.

I can't see it being the HD as it doesn't do anything. If it was I'd be able to get to BIOS and if necessary change the boot order and go off a CD or floppy (remember them?!?!?!)

Not sure whether to throw some cash at a PSU and I'll probably find it's the motherboard or take the opportunity to get a new PC. crazy.gif

It is a tough one .. but if it was the PSU why the flashing light ? The other posts I found said that it flashes when it finds a hardware fault, the difficult bit is finding what is at fault. Are there any lights inside that might point towards anything failing ?

As you say though could indeed be the PSU isn't feeling well. confused.gif

I had 2 Dell computers with the same problem, flashing power light and wont switch on. Both time it been the PSU. On the 2 I tested it had lost one of the power feeds (cant remember if it the 12 or the 5v) Hence there still voltage to flash the light.

I just use a cheap £20 multi fit one and cut the case out because the input plug is in a different place on the cheap ones. 169144-ok.gif

I've tried everything I can think of and that's been suggested.

On the Dell site it suggests reseating the memory and removing all the cards and this made no different.

Tobes - thanks for the tip. I hope it's the same. I'll get my tester out and see what I find. It seems I'll probably need a new PSU so I look at getting one off ebay which fits my 8250 for around £30.

Cheers.
