tonygould
I want to colour code the lowers on my 02 A4 so went to a bodyshop to get a quote but said they couldnt give me a guarantee on the work as the paint would eventualy flake off as it wouldnt 'take' to the plastic lowers. Now i know other people on here have had it done so i would like to know if you have had any flaking and what prosess the bodyshop went through to ensure it didnt flake before i go and get another quote TIA
Dave
Surely, if they use the right paint, then it should bind to the plastic? They need to use a paint that contains a solvent.. I'm no expert, but maybe your local dealer could give you the paint codes.?
AvantSE
The issue, or one of them, is that the plastic is in pretty poor condition as opposed to new plastic. It will also be covered in waxes etc. I went to about 4 places and was told the paint might flake off, though I eventually settled on an accident repair place nearby (York) area. They charged £475 to do my Avant and it has done 38,000 miles since with no flaking whatsoever - an excellent job.
John_Doe
I had the door blades colour coded on my previous B6 S4 by Gilders VW in York (via Audi York, same group etc) and they did a first class job..... They strip the waxes out first.....
AvantSE
Audi in York don't have their own bodyshop, they use Layerthorpe VW up the road, who weren't really interested in doing mine and therefore quoted £200 more than I paid at the other place. Quattrophenia
Try the JCT 600 body clinic in Bradord (on the ring road). They paint everything from Ferraris to Fiestas.
John_Doe
[ QUOTE ] therefore quoted £200 more than I paid at the other place. [/ QUOTE ] You might just have that "charitable look" about you???... The issue still remains that if correctly prepared, the paint will adhere to the composite plastic door blades / bodywork: Hope that helps, Landspeed.... AvantSE
Pah, you try to help someone and get nothing but insults The range was from £275 to £675 IIRC; the £275 sounded far too cheap and I didn't like the staff, so that was the end of that one !
