rhyds
Bloody hell, I'm no builder, but front porches shouldn't be doing that...

UBM
can anyone tell us what we are entitled to? We called the building company (house is 6.5 years old, we have 10 years NHBC) who promptly dispatched an independent assessor etc. They are going to replace the porch (FOC) and there are several others on the estate looking dodgy. Anyway, we were lucky as we usually park our pushchair (baba inside) on the porch on a nice day like today. It has damaged the garden, dented the front door in several places, etc.... Vagabond
Hate to state the obvious but that could have killed anyone standing at the door. I'm in the building trade and i can say, these things don't just fall off the wall. Get a claim in against the builders and get in touch with your lawyer ASAP
SamD
They should fix everything under the guarantee. It is due to their negligence. Didn't you leave your proceless Rolex in the porch today Who were the house builders out of interest?

[/ QUOTE ] Sorry, UBM, when I commented I hadn't seen all the pics showing the extent of the damage. Hadn't really though about the consequences - glad, very glad, to see no one was hurt Baba? Well if you're going to keep an elephant in your porch, these things will always be a possibility Good luck getting it sorted - make sure you have a shout at someone. The last porch we had was 90 years old and that was still going strong - someone's clearly made a booboo somewhere...
lottiefox
Dear God!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad you are all OK. Get a lawyer involved and make sure no one else gets injured. Thats a major construction feck up.
steve2
UBM,am glad no more serious concequences than some damage but i bet a lot of your neighbours are a bit worried, now you havent been swinging from it have you?
Sponge
Oh my God! That could have been lethal! I'd be screaming blue, bloody murder at the builders. Threatening lawyers, papers, the lot! They should fix everything that was damaged by the porch falling off. And then you want further compensation for the distress caused to your family. Lay it on thick! Soulboy
That is disgraceful - but glad nobody was injured. I agree with Fastlad and would get onto a solicitor asap. I think this should be a TSN name and shame. Who are the builders?
UBM
I'll disclose the builders following resolution of our case. I'm still a bit shaky TBH - thinking what might have happened. We have written a letter asking for things to be put right and a bit more (if you know what I mean). Well cheesed off TBH. We have sought legal help - they just said put everything in writing. Not sure whether to inform the local press....

UBM
Yes, great minds Sam! They have pulled out all the stops so far. Visit from their agent within 3 hours and the original sub-contractor shortly afterwards. It;s all the damage to the garden and stuff - not repairable. Mrs UBMs nerves are shot.... They ought to pay for a gardener to sort it out IMHO. And as for Mrs UBMs nerves, I am sure some financial contribution will help, that and a bit of time Just thank your lucky stars that it is only material damage, someone was obviously watching over you and yours today

Markpaq
I can't believe someone would use rawplugs to secure that to the wall! Glad to hear no-one was physically injured. If I were one of your neighbours I'd be extremely nervous of my Porch!
richy_uk
That is awful, glad no one got hurt. Could be wrong but I'm not sure if NHBC would cover that. They seem to get involved in major structural stuff like half the house falling down. They may deem a porch like that as an add on and not covered by the 10 year warranty. Had to use them once for a dispute over drainage and they were fecking spineless and useless. 3 months later they named the builders of our house as Housebuilder of the year. farmerpalmer
Ar't these things supposed to be bolted on, not using little fecking screws. they may have used "no more nails, or screws"
mmj
Cripes! Firstly, I would warn any of your freindly neighbours that may have a similarly badly erected porch! Secondly, I would give a large heavy hanging basket to the gits at no 42 as a 'fresh start' gesture!!! Quite recently there was a newly built block of luxury flats with steel balconies that collapsed. I can't quite believe that structures like these aren't tied in and purely rely on fasteners alone! Anyway, glad no-one was hurt!
