Oatz
Whilst driving in London the other day I came to rest at a set of traffic lights and my radar detector (Bell 550) went crazy flashing "laser" then went back to normal then once again a few seconds later it went crazy flashing the same warning. I happened to look up and there was a black congestion/ANPR camera above me, so am I correct in assuming ANPR's utilise laser? If so a garage door opener could effectively jam this.....?? Sparky
Fixed ANPR Cameras do not contain lasers. There was most likely some other unit causing this.
Mook
If you're after a garage door opener, you should talk to Helfinger (a.k.a. Tom). His company is called www.speed-detectors.co.uk Bugger, that's given the away about the garage door opener...
AvantSE
Was it not the traffic lights that caused it?
Oatz
I already have a garage door opener but cheers for the heads-up Mook. Seems strange that this is the only time it's ever happened whilst at traffic lights.... do traffic lights emit laser signals then?
Sparky
No, they are microwave signals. Is it only laser your unit responds to?
Oatz
My Bel (no jokes) responds to all types of radar as well as laser but alerts you to which frequency it has detected (i.e for live Gatsos it displays "K band" and for the old fashioned hair dryer speed traps it displays "KU Band" whereas for laser only it displays "laser"). I have only ever had "laser" displayed for camera vans/mobile speed traps so I find it extremely strange that it went off at a set of traffic lights on Portobello road? Sparky
Could there not be something further down the road causing it?
techieboy
Aren't the lasers that the police use, in the infrared frequency/wavelength? If so, I guess it's possible that some other infrared device using a particularly high frequency/wavelength could be triggering the alarm. Traffice sensitive traffic lights? Something in a shop? Alternatively, I could just be talking out of my
skifly
the congestion charge cameras often use infra red targeter lamps so maybe the IR theory is correct as i seem to recall speed guns using IR frequency - wasnt it about 904 somethingorothers.
