A4B6
Ive got a mk4 golf with original VW MFD sat nav. The map on it is slightly behind my actual position. At the moment ive tried to different copied CD's and the map is still behind. If i get an original CD, do you think it will solve the problem? PetrolDave
Nope. I think this is a question I've answered many times on many websites ... it takes the GPS receiver a sizeable fraction of a second to calculate your position, ... and by then you've moved on! So the position that any GPS system shows will always be slightly behind where you actually are, and the faster you go the more behind it will be. A4B6
Its not by abit, its be 50-100 yards. Ive was told that the MFD's laser has to work overtime to read a copied disc so thats why its behind.
shark_90
Dave, should the MFD take a speed signal from the ABS like in an Audi? Maybe there's a problem there?
PetrolDave
[ QUOTE ] Dave, should the MFD take a speed signal from the ABS like in an Audi? Maybe there's a problem there? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, even most of the aftermarket in-dash sat nav systems need a speed signal - at least all the ones I've fitted did! If it's 50-100 yards behind then it sounds like the speed pulse needs calibrating. The RNS-E auto-calibrates, but it takes a few hundred miles to do so - probably the same on the MFD. Froggy
It will be the speed pulse calibration I suspect. The older systems only use the GPS information as a check about once every 60 - 90 seconds to compare the calculated position against where the GPS thinks you are. Does the countdown bar accurately tell you when you have reached your turning? And what scale are you looking at the map on? (On fully zoomed in they never keep up, they always appear slightly behind)
A4B6
When in map mode, the countdown bar is about 90% accurate. When i zoom in the most which is 0.1mile and sometimes 0.2 miles, only then the map is behind my actual position.
