Merlot
The performance is right, so is the price and so is the look but the suspension is 'normal'. I've got magnetic ride on my TT, RS4's have DRC and A6/A8/Q7 do/can have air but the A5 makes do as of old. Will this ruin the S5? If the suspension is like my B6 S4 then I will be disappointed, if its like the current S6 then I will be gutted. Conclusion - I won't confirm a spec until I've driven a demo but I'm not bullish. Shame as if magnetic dampers were an option I would have added them and ordered the car blind. Perhaps a 2nd hand RS4 is a better choice?
Nelson_R32
Not quite sure what you mean by 'normal'? Just because it doesn't have Magnetic Ride or Dynamic Ride Control doesn't mean its going to be a poor handler. With the Chassis Improvements and 40/60 Quattro split the only thing that may let it down will be the Trademark numb Audi Steering. But as this car is heading straight for M3 teritory I'd say they've even sorted that as well! But we'll see...
Scotty
Given the unknowns, I'm definately not ordering off paper. I'll wait until they're around and then see about a 57 plate car. I've also pondered an M3 but the lead time on them with all the sold out slots rules it out.
ashleyadam
Come on Nelson M3 territory when is going to start the? It will need to be some good car to match current M3 let alone the new one.

[/ QUOTE ] Stranger things have happened; for all we know the new M3 might look the part but could be a massive disapointment. Don't confuse the M3 Concept with what we'll actually be getting... gizze
I agree, the thing that looks most worrying is the balance, once again it looks like the engine is hanging over the front, this is more of a concern than the suspension in my view. ashleyadam
Based on the M3 current and past pedigree just cant not see it matching the BMW at all. I am far from a BMW fan as you know currentley running an S4. The M3 is some car in all forms so if it matchs or betters then Audi have some car but I just cant see it. The Audi for me is more of a grand cruiser and the M3 is BMW at there best.
Nelson_R32
Well I think its unfair to say that when the best anyone has at the moment is aload of Marketing Guff The A5's engine is behind the Front Axle according to the press release. Front Overhangs are the norm nowadays due to Crash Regulations.
ashleyadam
Nelson I am not knocking the A5 just dont see it as an M3 beater and I am far from in the know just my opinion.

[/ QUOTE ] I thought the big thing about the new chassis was that the engine was further back, within the wheelbase. The rack has been moved and I think it creates a more direct feel and with less bump steer? think that's the plan!
P_G
The A/S5 overhang is more design for pedestrian crash protection than where the engine sits. Having seen some of the X-ray type diagrams it looks like the engine sits either directly over the front axle or indeed slightly behind.
Merlot
Well I see that the new C class has the option of adaptive damping so surely Audi would want to fit it to the B8 A4 SO WHERE IS IT ON THE S5?
