nordberg
Looking to get a late deal. Looking for somewhere scenic and not too touristy. Ideally I'd like a villa or apartment for 2 people. Como seems nice, but then so does Garda. Can anyone give me pointers/suggestions etc? We will be going on the 24th March for 7 nights.
Redavant
Garda is really nice, went about 2 year ago in October, obviously quiet that time of year, food really nice. Only downside was that it was full of old people! Going to the otherside of the lake this year, Pashira?? or something like that. Anyway, lakes can't recommend the place enough! farmerpalmer
Mrs F-P and I went to lake garda a couple of years ago. Have been menaing to return. beautiful food & wine. Malsecine (?) is fantastic, and there are regular boats to take you lots of other lovely towns on the lake. Go for it
nordberg
Well we went to Como and stayed in Belaggio. Absolutely superb. Surrounded by some of the best scenery in the world.
EssFour
Lake Maggiore is also a nice lake in that region or you could head south and try Lake Trassimeno near Pergugia.

The airports are used by low cost airlines and the lakes are good drive away. 3. who did you book thru? - You can use either Expedia, Lastminute, Italian Lakes or any of the other online holiday websites. 4. is it really expensive or can it be done on a budget? - At this time of the year, expensive. But it is all relative. I hope this helps.
Guest PeterPiper
We did Como last year. First 4 days at Varenna and then 4 at Belagio. Varenna blows your sox off, very little to do and not overly commerecialised. Belagio is the opposite, but once you get used to the crowds/yanks no probs. Our hotel served brilliant food, mainly fish from the lake, strangly enough called lakefish! We flew into Milan and had a taxi - at vast expense, but found we didn't need a car, because we just used the ferries to move about. So costs were cancelled out. To sum up, great area, great food/drink, not cheap but not expensive, and yes we are going back. More than happy to provide more info, pm me. GCab
.. but don't swim or swallow the water. Huge amounts of sewage contamination, says here in the paper...

Visited Varenna but, being off-season, didn't spend much time there once we'd seen the (vey few) sights. Plenty of excellent walking/hiking to be done in this area. Mt St Primo was a challenge! dubzter
Was in Garda for a week at the start of July, beautiful place but full of tourists. Malcesnie is gorgeous. Can't rate it highly enough.
