Italian Lakes

Looking to get a late deal. Looking for somewhere scenic and not too touristy. Ideally I'd like a villa or apartment for 2 people.

Como seems nice, but then so does Garda.

Can anyone give me pointers/suggestions etc? We will be going on the 24th March for 7 nights.

Garda is really nice, went about 2 year ago in October, obviously quiet that time of year, food really nice. Only downside was that it was full of old people!

Going to the otherside of the lake this year, Pashira?? or something like that.

Anyway, lakes can't recommend the place enough! 169144-ok.gif

I'm thinking of a heading to this area to escape the horrible british summer!

got a few questions some of might be able to help with..

1. what airports are best for the area?

2. do you need a hire car to see it all?

3. who did you book thru?

4. is it really expensive or can it be done on a budget?

it looks really nice but i don't really know where to start. so any advice greatly recieved. cheers 169144-ok.gif

1. what airports are best for the area? - If your considering the all the lakes, Maggiore, Lugano, Como or Garda then êither Brescia, Bergamo or Verona are the best airports.

2. do you need a hire car to see it all? - Yes. The airports are used by low cost airlines and the lakes are good drive away.

3. who did you book thru? - You can use either Expedia, Lastminute, Italian Lakes or any of the other online holiday websites.

4. is it really expensive or can it be done on a budget? - At this time of the year, expensive. But it is all relative.

I hope this helps.

We did Como last year. First 4 days at Varenna and then 4 at Belagio. Varenna blows your sox off, very little to do and not overly commerecialised. Belagio is the opposite, but once you get used to the crowds/yanks no probs. Our hotel served brilliant food, mainly fish from the lake, strangly enough called lakefish! We flew into Milan and had a taxi - at vast expense, but found we didn't need a car, because we just used the ferries to move about. So costs were cancelled out.

To sum up, great area, great food/drink, not cheap but not expensive, and yes we are going back.

More than happy to provide more info, pm me.

We were there off-season, so Belaggio was very quiet and perfect for what we wanted. Visited Varenna but, being off-season, didn't spend much time there once we'd seen the (vey few) sights.

Plenty of excellent walking/hiking to be done in this area. Mt St Primo was a challenge!
