stevepil
Hi All I have an Audi A3 1.8 (not turbo) with a service indicator, had service 6 weeks ago and it was reset to 10k till next service, ive now checked and it says 4200, I was told it may have reset due to basis on your current driving, ive only done 600 miles since the service so roughly 100 miles a week so not sure if it has reset based on my mileage? does anyone know and my question is when I do more miles will it adjust to accomodate this? I will be doing a lot more miles over next few months and dont want service light to come on when ive only done 4000 miles since service. Anyone know? It would make sense to a degree as when I got the car the previous owner had only done 2k since last service which was 10 months ago but indicator said 500 miles so I quickly got it serviced even though it had 2 months left as didnt understand how it worked at that pont, dont want to make same mistake, garage have said they will reset again but dont see point if it auto adjusts? Thanks Steve

Tunbridge
I believe the system works on a viscosity sensor in the sump which checks the oil but I think the number of cold starts you do is also factored into it somehow. If the wrong spec oil has been used this could have affected it?
