Dave
[ QUOTE ] hope those rear gills are just a disguise [/ QUOTE ] I doubt it to be honest.. i imagine they are either there for the brakes or intercoolers. Think it looks great, but i'm never too sure about the GT2. Who does it really appeal to? You have the city boys turbo and the track boys GT3. Dave
No the opposite really. The GT3 is known as the out and out drivers car.. more so the RS version. It has a normally aspirated engine which is just sublime. The 'problem' (not really a problem as such) is that the GT2 is turbo-charged and with that comes lag and boost, all of which isn't on a purists shopping list. sitas3
The GT2 I was out in at Snetterton was keeping up with the 997 GT3RS very nicely! Both have no PSM and the GT3 better at racing really.
Dave
By all accounts the GT2 is the faster. It certainly has a lot more power. I've never been in one, whereas i have a GT3. The GT3 was a dream, and the guy who's it was reckoned it was the best driving 911. Like i say, i can't compare the two and i'm only going on what i've been told. sitas3
my experience of the GT3 was that it was more balanced than the GT2 and the engine note sounded a lot like the old aircooled motors. GT2 was faster in parts on the track however the GT3 could have stayed out there all day was it not for tyres whereas the blown GT2 had to be rested. Adam
GT2 in 996 guise is getting a bit of a cult following bow, probably gives you a buzz knowing you are driving a bit of an animal. By all accounts it is not as good a drivers car as a GT3 and not as competent a road car as a TT. It sold in minimal numbers because of this (and the hilarious £126k asking price). Now its unpopularity means it is rare and rare + Porsche = cult. It looks utterly fantastic though - my ideal 996 would be a TT X50 with factory GT2 aerokit.
