Hopsta
Insurance is due up at the end of April, the gf will hopefully be passing her test next week and I obviously want to put her on my insurance. However the scheme that i'm on with Highway is restricted to drivers with 2 or more years experience. I've got 7 years NCB (would be 8 next month) and there are so many companies that just won't insure her as a named driver or want the earth! Been shopping about and at the moment Elephant is coming out the best 470 (15k miles, garaged, SDP&C). Reason for me wanting to change prior to my end of policy is that we're off to Scotland on the 1st for 10 days with the car Any suggustions welcome

Ian_C
Avoid Elephant like the Plague. Any 'dealer' options like your RSTTs won't be insured. Madness. Ian
Insurance Jon
erm there is no more financial gain/discount after 6 years usually so i don't see the problem. you'll get a prorata cancellation as it is changing to a risk they won't cover
Botang
I'm in a similar position for a different reason. Just got my renewal through with Admiral which is quite a reasonable price, the problem comes when I want to make a modification that they wont cover in about 3 months. Am I best to go with a provider now that could add the modification when the time comes or cancel the Admiral policy after 3 months and start again. I have 9 years NCB so no worries there
PinkPrincess
I am only 19 with 1yncb and my partner is 23 with 4yncb and our insurance on our Astra is 650.00 Extorsionate

Ian_C
Without being naive for doubting Insurance Jon, that seems quite high for a standard mkiv Astra? I am paying less than that FC with a major UK insurer on a group 14 hot hatch. 23 at the time, zero no claims bonus, albeit clean licence held for six years, no accidents or claims. Admittedly low risk postcode, garaged down a private drive at home address, cat 1 alarm immobiliser and very limited mileage. Named driver aged 19 is probably the killer. What is the breakdown? You might find the premium is half with you removed. Ian
Hopsta
I knew there was somsone i meant to call on Fri, Jon will give you a shout tomorrow and see if you can assist. I've had a good quote from Prestige Underwriting via a broker, never heard of them before, they any good Jon? Come out at £448 with a 250 excess for me and the other half, protected NCB etc. They will only cover once she's past which will hopefully be on Fri. Insurance Jon
pp it's not rocket science, your older, more bonus, more experience and a soft market
PinkPrincess
actually I am the same age, I havent got no more bonuses and i hardly any more experience, Its strange because its dropped over 200 pound to have me on, yet dropped only about 70 pound for brett :S Thats with Direct Line Ian C
Insurance Jon
have I read it wrong then, I read it as last year and this years premium. The reason you are cheaper than him is because you have breasts though.
PinkPrincess
You still misunderstanding That quote is for Brett first price was him singularly on the policy second quote was with me added With me on the policy it only goes up by 20 odd pounds... peterb
Insurance is nearly always cheaper for a couple ... I think it's seen as a sign of stability and responsibility!
pritesh
Insurance will most of the time be alot cheaper if your: 1) Married, couple 2) Own a House 3) Have children (or dependants) Your seen as less of a risk really as you have financial commitments elsewhere as well as running a car. I have noticed that the premium can vary alot depending on your post code as well. I renewed mine last week and I only payed 600 for insuring my CLK considering I'm in my late 20s and only have 2 yrs NC I think thats decent enough.
