EdR32
When I ordered the car I assumed that an armrest was standard, then you payed the extra for an armrest with cub holders and rear air vents? After talking to the dealer he's not entirely sure. So does the R32 come with an armrest as standard and if not can it be retrofitted at a dealership? AGK512
As far as I'm aware it's only 'included' if you go for the DVD nav option otherwise it's a £120 option. Would have thought you could get it as a spare part ? Dealer not sure ??? it's on the options list !!
Vagabond
Optional extra or as silverarrow says, included with satnav. It can be retro-fitted but i think the dealer will charge £500 odds. I'm sure thats what i was told when i asked them
EdR32
The dealers an idiot anyways. When I ordered the car I knew more about the car than him - can tell he doesn't sell many! I've asked for June 3rd Delivery, yet it's already been built and is apparently sitting in a warehouse for the next 3 months. I don't think that good at all. 500 for an armrest?! So I assume when I get the car there will be nothing in between the seats? I thought the handbrake was incorporated into the armrest?
AGK512
I think you'll get a slightly different centre section from those with an arm rest. It has two holes at the back for holding vats of fizzy drinks ! If you select the DVD nav then the back of the centre section has two oblong mouldings for 6CD changer and bits. EdR32
Does anyone have a pictures of an R32 without the optional arm rest?
kmpowell
Sorry, but I honestly don't get the whole 'armrest is a must in a MKV' thing and why people get so excited about them?!? IMO they are big, cumbersome and get in the way when i'm driving. I'm not 105 years old, so I'm perfectly able to support my own arms! I drive a performance hatch, not a Rover 75, so I have no need for it. Personally I took the armrest out and slung it in the cupboard (to put back in when I come to sell it) and I bought the replacement OEM non-armrest cupholder panel, which IMO is much better. I did it this way because for some bizarre reason people seem to love the armrest, so I will put it back in when I sell. So. bizzarly £115 now could help you sell the car at a later date. It's all very odd if you ask me.
njc851
it's a good place to shove stuff, ipod, phone, general crap and the armrest shuts on top, all secure. thats why i like it
EdR32
The armrest is for storage, not for comfort. Besides, I've read if you have the recaros you won't be able to use the armrest anyways! kmpowell - I'd love to see what you've replaced the armrest with, or any pictures you do have of what you've done? Thanks
w1how
No armrest on my car either and cant say ive missed it after having other cars with armrests. You get a storage compartment and drink(large bottle!)holder for rear seat passengers.Interestingly you dont get the silver aluminium type trim around the ashtray area if you dont have centre arm rest. Maxyboy
the trim around the front of the console comes with the smoking pack at a no cost option
kmpowell
[ QUOTE ] you dont get the silver aluminium type trim around the ashtray area if you dont have centre arm rest. [/ QUOTE ] You do if you buy that bit too. I'll try and get some pics taken, so you can see what the interior of my car looks like without the cumbersome armrest and with the aluminium trim. All in all it took about 2 hours to remove the armrest, put in the new panel and then fit the ali trim. There is plenty of storage without it, and as I never leave anything in the car (only a fool would!), it seems to do the job perfectly (for me at least!) Maxyboy
so how much is the ash tray lid that you get with the smoking pack? and is it a straight fit to a car that doesnt have it?

kmpowell
[ QUOTE ] Any chance of a pircture update? [/ QUOTE ] The camera is on charge and I'll nip out in a bit to do a few for you. Just tried looking for the receipt, but It seems to have gone AWOL. Off the top of my head I think it was about £160-£180 for the panel and ali ashtry bit together. The ali panel is pretty much a straight fit, but if you want to do it it 100% OEM fit you would have to drill the underneath panel with 2 small holes for the ali panel to clip into. I simply snapped off the front plastic lugg's on the ali panel and it sits on top perfectly. Not sure why it needs clipping down to be honest. The pics will show it all perfectly though. kmpowell
Ok chaps, here you go* - sorry about the quality of the pics but it's freezing cold outside, and due to my camera refusing to charge(!?!) all I had was my cam phone on me. Hopefully you'll get the general idea though... Hope that helps. *Sits back and waits for the armrest boys to say "It looks like something is missing!" EdR32
Thanks very much! But I'm definately going to look into getting an arm rest, because as said, it does look like somethings missing!

As I said before, it's personal choice, and I prefer not to have it as I find it gets in the way of a rapid gear changes etc . The pictures do exaggerate the fact the armrest isn't there, and I ertainly don't miss mine. Your post does demonstrate why I kept the old armrest though, and why I will put it back in when I sell the car.

Cuprabob
One other benefit of the armrest is that you get the sliding cover over the cupholders. Personally, i think it looks classier but respect everyone has there own preferences
