SPLiiX
This maybe a really silly question but does Quattro need oil like a gearbox needs oil?? If it does when or does it ever need to be changed. I have never seen anything in the manual/service book about it!? If I am a plonker just tell me! shark_90
It doesn't need to be changed, however there is oil in the rear differential and the seals can leak sometimes - they were leaking on my 2001 quattro A4. Changed the seals (metal) and refilled with oil, job's a good 'un. So it's not a service item, but they do have oil in them and you do need to keep your eye on them. Avus_Bub
I'm old though and for the price the oil will cost and my time it's a job I will do this year. BUB :spannering smiley:
shark_90
You'll need the seal kit also mate, about £70 IIRC

I'll look into it a bit further mate. I thought you could just drop the oil and refill? BUB
shark_90
I'm not sure if it has a plug or not, and as it's not usually a serviceable item I'd guess not.. so you'd have to pop the driveshafts out and drop the diff off to empty it I'm guessing. I'm no expert though mate, next time your car's on the ramps have a look
