Looking to take the better half to Paris for a long weekend and as Ive not been there in recent years was wanting to knwo the best way to arrange the trip Has anyone got suggestions for websites etc that they reccomend? I know it will be cheaper to arrange the flights and hotel myself but was wanting some guidence from those in the know and who have been before. cheers in advance.. Fizz p.s) also how much do you reckon for a ball park figure it would cost the trip inc 3 nights in a 3* hotel near the main attractions?
fizzbitt
sorry.. forgot to mention that we are based in West Yorkshire with the Leeds/Bradford airport being the closest. Manchester Airport aint a problem to get to either.
Busby
Not sure on the flight front from where you are but the gf and I stayed in a really quaint little hotel in Paris last year for a long weekend. It is here and is run by a little old lady who is very sweet. Two or three minute walk from Notre Dame and the river from where you can walk to anywhere (Eiffel Tower, Louvre, etc) if the weather is ok. Not the Ritz Carlton but very French, in a great location, very clean, has a little garden you can use and it cheap as chips

DHA
Le train bleu is a nice restaurant, a bit pricey but good food.
NunchukHamster
I don't usually worry about staying near the attractions in Paris, the Metro is very good and cheap too. All over europe I usually just go via the Accor website (Novotel, Ibis, Sofitel, Formula 1 etc.) Ok, not unique hotels, but comfortable & clean, and usually a decent price. Waylander
thing is though, you are going for your 1st wedding anniversary. You will want a nice stroll along the Champs Elysee and then then be able to walk to the hotel in time for some rumpsy-pumpy not get a metro after than [ruins the mood]. There are some lovely Boutiquette hotels quite near the Museum [sorry I forget the name of the place we stayed at] which are excellent standard and reasonable price. Notre Dame is too far away IMO and around Sacre Couer is cheaper but it is very very seedy. If you look on a map of central paris, near the Museum there is a square which has alot fo the jewellers etc in that square and the roads of there have some boutique hotels try those. I have wracked by brains for the name but it just wont come.
Waylander
I would also recommend getting the train to London for Eurostar. Longer Journey but sometimes you can find a very cheap deal and the Eurostar train managers are good - some will give you an upgrade to 1st class if you see them before you get seated or else when that isn't possible he gave us a carriage all to ourselves. I will ask wifey if she can remember the name of the hotel in the morning
Waylander
it was the Hotel Castille we stayed at: http://www.castille.com/index.php?lin=2&id1=23&id2= Also google Hotel Napoleon [near the Arc de Triumphe IIRC]

Gabster
After just inputing into the Vegas thread must say this place is the total opposite, and I love it. What I love in Paris is the Museums. The Louvre and Musee D Orsay are my favorites. The Louvre has the best collection of ancient artifacts you will ever see and the Musee D Orsay has the best collection of contemporary art from 1848-1914. You can see originals by Gauguin, Duval, Degas, Cézanne, Monet, Whistler, Lautrec and van Gogh. Most of these you will have seen in poster shops, and on the TV, but these are the real deal. WOW!! Also if you love architecture its awsome, old Napolean had an eye for a stunning statement through buildings. I just love this City. Also did you know its the most visited city in thw world by tourists enjoy. PS I loved the French and found them polite and understanding of my poor french. [/ QUOTE ] No problem. As we seem to be living somewhat paralel lives [although it seems you bought your house a year before I did...and we had our daughter at the same time as we got the keys ] I think Paris as a 1st Aniversary works very well [esp if she has never been before]. Lots of strolls around Place Veldrome etc etc - very romanstick! I also agree with Gabster. I always tried my pidgeon GSCE French and they always laughed and helped, whereas were a little surly when "english only" approach was used.
