Just a quick mini review;

I decided to buy a 'Pogo drive' (Safety Camera / Sat Nav unit) for the other half's A3 (after she got an SP30 for doing 85 in a 50 (end of Motorway)...sigh)... I've got a spare 'Road Pilot' she could have but she doesn't like how it rattles and I thought she'd be better off with a unit that also does Navi.

First impressions;

The Good...

1, The unit seems solid, the screen is bright, and very clear.

2, The device is very fast at responding to button presses

3, The windscreen mount is really solid with multiple adjustments, when in place it doesn't rattle or squeak (unlike the Road Pilot)

4, Built-in speaker very clear (and loud)

5, The Navi works very well on the short journey I tried (and the Navteq map data is more upto date than the VW MFD unit in my car).

The Bad...

1, The unit has 'crashed' on my twice in the first 5 minutes of use ('Fatal Application Error') which doesn't fair well for it being accepted by the other half.

2, The companies own website is just a 'holding page' saying come back soon (sigh... I guess I won't be getting support from there quite yet).

3, I can't 'activate / register' the device because the software CD was sent by separate cover (and didn't arrive)... Hence why I tried the companies site. As such the device keeps beeping REALLY LOUD saying 'Register'

4, After arriving home (using Navi) When the unit doesn't have a GPS signal (on driveway close to house) it keeps repeating 9 times "You have reached your destination".... Then you do something else, and it starts again 9 times!!!!

I feel I maybe beta testing this device. I'm hoping that once I do get an install CD I'll be able to download a bug free firmware update that'll make it 'Other Half Friendly' as at the moment its going to be a waste of time and money even bothering to get her to use it.

Tomorrow I'll take some 'in place' pictures in both her A3 and my Golf so people can put the units size into perspective.

Hope this is informative, and I'll keep it updated with the outcome.

Lee

Well, finally managed to update / register 'Pogo Drive'. As a side note, you can only register the unit over the phone and not via the internet using the update utility (unlike my Road Pilot).

Updated 'firmware' now loaded on unit, so I've now managed to hand the unit over to the 'better half'.

So the report of her first days use..... She said...

"I turned it on this morning, and it just kept saying 'You have reached your destination' about twenty times!!!, so I turned it off and un-plugged it" ...sigh... I corrected her that it was probably two lots of 9 but she wasn't impressed slap.gif

So, it looks like it's still not 'other half' friendly frown.gif hopefully another firmware update will appear soon to resolve this 'feature' (the Navi function was only used the first day I had the unit, so why it keeps doing this I just don't know).

So in summary at the moment;

...For the user that doesn't mind the odd problem (which requires a reset), this is a totally excellent product 169144-ok.gif169144-ok.gif169144-ok.gif

...As a robust/just does what it's ment to gadget for the 'other half' well at the moment I really wouldn't recommend it frown.gif

Like I said previously, I really do hope they sort this out as I was planning on either buying another one of these, or getting the 'Pogo Alert' too

HTH

Sigh.....

Yet another problem with the unit... It's just completely dead now frown.gif

I'll call them tomorrow, to arrange sending it back... Lets hope that means the problems I've had were because of a rogue unit. I'll keep you updated on the RMA process and how long a replacement unit's gonna take.

Hi, I've been using the PogoDrive and it outstrips the Indago. The latest firmware can be checked under the system info; "Settings, System, System Info" and is dated March 19th 07. If you have a drive and need the latest firmware I guess you need to call them too. Speak to Dave.

In what way is it better? There's too much of this kit available now. Snooper themselves seem to have 3 products which seem to do exactly the same thing, ranging from £240 to £350. What makes the Pogo £100 better than the Syrius, for example?

Apart from the navigation, I prefer the looks (unlike drpellypo - sorry to disagree) also the camera database is excellent, especially when the unit is used in Safety mode Only :-)

Is the navigation better than TomTom or Snooper kit? I've been thinking about getting a Syrius or similar for shifting between our non RNS-E equipped cars. I've used TomTom (and still have the current version) on PDA and whilst the navigation was okay I was never convinced about their own speed camera database. Ended up using the PocketGPS db instead. Their road map updates always seemed slow and cost each time.

I see the Snooper and Pogo stuff are running the latest 2007 Navteq maps and both do 7-digit postcode routing and I think I want an integrated device this time. So does one have better routing than the other?

I've got an existing Snooper Sapphire GPS camera device and also have a RoadPilot hardwired into the Audi. They've both been pretty reliable when it comes to warning of traps. Is the Pogo db really better than anything else?

My problem is, none of them seem to offer anything more than any of the others, in reality. Yet, there's as much as a £200 difference between the prices. Am I missing something glaringly obvious, a standout feature of one in particular? Or, is it just down to appearance at the end of the day?

See, I really am confused confused.gif

Mr Tee,

Thanks for the advice, as per conversation with you today, the unit is dead until it's plugged into the PC ( that is since removing / replacing the battery (as instructed)), once plugged into PC the USB display screen on the unit is completely non interactive, and none of the buttons do anything (appart from the reset smile.gif ). The update utility will still update the unit but I can't get to the setting your commenting on to flash the firmware frown.gif

I await the replacement battery in the post as advised.

Cheers,

Lee

  • 3 weeks later...

Just an update.

Today I finally had a replacement PogoDrive delivered (since the replacement battery didn't resolve the problem of the unit locking up)! When I get home tonight I'll see if this one works better than the last and post feedback.
