Soapsuds
Hi all, Not been on here for a good few weeks due to yr. end / general chaos at work!!! Turned the big 3 0 this time last week and have been getting the last bit of 'fun' out of my system and now time to grow up a little Anyway, i took the decision that running 2 petrol cars and having the Megane sat on my drive doing nothing is a bit silly really, so made my mind up to get rid of them both and get a diesel. VERY HARD decision as i love the Megane. I was getting incredibly cocky in it though and at some of the speeds i was doing (NSL areas / Cat N Fiddle) were ludicrous. Racing anything big expensive and flash just to make a point. That and i dont user her enough. Soooooooooooooooooooo i have just placed my deposit on a new 320d M Sport Touring. Yep - i have never like BMW's (mainly image to be honest) but my shortlist was incredibly short and this won hands down - phenominal car to be fair and sitting inside it, at least i dont have to look at its bum . NOT TO MENTION the stuuuuupidly good deal (12% discount & phenominal px price) for buying it late March! In the end it was up against a Lexus IS220d and the A4 2.0 TDi 170 Quattro S-Line Special Edition (breathe....). It was superior in some ways over both and inferior in others, but i was VERY impressed by the Lexus. Audi didnt do it fr me at all. Odd as i am an Audi fan - maybe 'cos i have already owned one? Main reason i didnt get the Lexus? Thier finance deal is cr4p and it's not an estate. So, £1000 deposit paid this monrning, delivery due 7-10 days as i pulled one i liked out of central stock, unregistered with delivery mileage. Titanium Silver 18" Alloy Upgrade BT Phone Kit (with the gay sharks fin ) Sun Protection Glass (dark rears). Chose silver as i like the way the M Sport details stood out more. And its a little easier to keep clean!! Was tempted VERY much by white..... When is the next TSN meet in cheshire? So i can show my wheels off!!?? Wont be setting the world in fire in perfomance anymore though Just off to 'expand' the BMW section in the forums..... TTFN!!

v6tas
Well you say you wont be up there with performance any more but the 320d isnt exacly uber-slow either for a diesel anyway. Hope you enjoy it mate

Need to remember how to drive a diesel again now!! Simply acres in refinement / power delivery over the old Audi PD 130...... that was a dog in comparison! RedRobin
Once you've experienced a BMW I think you'll always appreciate them even if a Beemer isn't your current ride. Had some friendly but sporty action behind a fairly new diesel 3-series recently which included quite a lot of roundabouts. I was horrified by the soot chucking everytime he hit the throttle trying to lose me....Yuk!! Surely that stuff is pollution.
Mook
Bloody hell, Jon, really surprised to hear you've canned the 225 after such a short time, but needs must, as they say... Have fun with your new toy when it arrives

I will just smell like a chippy You are right about BM's - i bought the 5 series (e34) as a runabout and it has been truly stunning. £1000 i paid for it and i have just covered about 8k miles in 4 months..... not missed a beat!! Touch wood, she will keep going for another thousand or so this week until the new one arrives!

The Meggy was just silly and i had to drive it like i was on a track every time i got in it - just not good. Well, it was, but you know what i mean!! My mr sensible hat is on now!! Sounds like a nice spec on the new motor

RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] Welcome to the over 30's and the BMW clubs [/ QUOTE ] ....But be warned that when you hit the over 50's you swop the BMW for a hot hatch GTI as I did !! I think it was Shakespeare who described the seven ages of man and the fact that we return to our childhood in later life.

CarMad
What did you think of the engine in the IS220d ? Might be looking at one myself soon. An estate isn't a need I have but the Lexus comes loaded with everything and might not handle as well as the BMW but has a lot of pros for it IMO. Rich_Bee
I've got the 220d, had it since last May and done 18,000 miles now. Engine is superb, the gearing is odd (need to be doing over 80 in 6th so as not to labour it ) but the power is great, 30 to 100 in third in one big push. Kit is second to none, build quality great now (was dodgy at first) and so quiet on the move it's like Blue Thunder in whisper mode. Fuel consumption was a concern at first, I couldn't get over 40 on a run. Now getting 40 average (at least 50% urban) and can get 45 on a run including over eager accelerating a few times! I'd recommend it
