revolutsia
Hi everyone. My first message. I don't understand cars well, but I know how the computers workd though JUst a question. Couple of months ago I purchased 2002 VW PASSAT GLX V6. All V6 VW Passats come with 2.4 or 2.6L engine, but this one is 3.0. Is this normal? What kind of engine is this? Carfax is showing my car as 2.6 liter VW Passat GLX. Why there is a mistake? Transmission is tiptronic. The car is pretty fast & smooth. Here is a picture of my ride: Customized grill, rims, muffler, MP3 player, etc...
Rustynuts
Well, seeing as you're in the States I'm not too sure what you'd get over there, but over here we get the 2.8 V6 petrol, and the 2.5 V6 TDI (diesel). I'm not aware of VW making either a 2.4 or a 2.6 V6, nor a 3.0ltr V6 engine.
drpellypo
The US models on the b5.5 were 2.0 TDI, 2.8 V6, or 4.0 W8. There was never a 3.0 so far as I know.
revolutsia
Thanks for your replies. Yes it's 3.0L V6 VW GLX 2002 vehicle. I took it to a mechanic and got a confirmation that the car has a 3.0L engine. However the mechanic was also surprised to see VW Passat 02 GLX with 3.0L engine. He added "Maybe it's a customization from a factory, they dis't make 3.0L engines for 02 Passats." As I know from previous owner the car was imported from Germany, but I did not ask any further questions. The reason I want to find this out is that I want to sell this vehicle and just want to estimate what price it can sell. Final question - does the 3.0L has advantage over other common factory engines?
Rustynuts
If you're certain that it has a 3.0ltr V6 engine, then it's had a transplant from an Audi. That being the case, it's a bit of an oddball, and will be worth pretty much what you can get for it. A lot will depend on whether or not Audi supply a similar engined car to the states and whether you can source any spares easily.
drpellypo
TBH - this is the last place to ask for advice on this, because we're the other side of the world! We're no more knowledgeable of US markets than you are. Have you tried vwvirtex forums? They are mainly US folk.
revolutsia
Hi, Well the engine has a VW symbol on it. Looks like authentic, but yes it says 3.0L V6. Yes I am in US. I am thinking to sell this car for $11,500.
