Dave
In tomorrow's budget it seems to be of the general opinion that road tax for big 4x4's is going to double if not more. Owners could be looking at a bill of over £400 per year!! The trouble with this sort of legislation is that it's easy to forget portions of the population. Yes, you may well get the "Chelsea Tractor" brigade, but down here 4x4's are a way of life... farmers, coast-guards, people who use them for towing trailers etc.. a new tax hits these people, who can ill afford it. It's yet again a reaction to a problem that doesn't really exist.
Daz
I don't think it will be just 4x4's but anything in the G tax banding. Bugger

Ritey
Is there a site that states what is in what band, or does anyone know what a 17 year old series III landy would be in?

Edited to say: I've just noticed that the table only deals with new cars.

[/ QUOTE ] To be honest, I think that government spin is to blame for a lot of that. They want the public at large to believe that it's only V8 petrol Range Rovers and Land Cruisers which are being targetted by the draconian taxation. In reality, it's an awful lot of ordinary motorists who are about to be hit over the head with a huge tax hike.
Cupramax
Thank god I got a Jan06 car which can only be a band F at the highest as if I'd got a March one I'd be getting clobbered for an A4 Cab Gordon really is a tosser and is going to end up as the shortlest lived PM at this rate
theduisbergkid
This might sound odd, as I hate this twatbag government, but I hate the Chelsea tractor brigade even more, so knackers to the extra tax and sorry to the genuine few (and I reckon it is only a few) people who really need a 4X4. All those f*ckwit schoolrun mums are in for it now !
scooby_simon
Article I read in the Times today or yesterday was that Gordon the robber would only be applying the tax to NEW cars. I.e. if you have a 4x4 now the new tax will not apply.

A woman in a freelander TD4 dropping her kids off is a f*ckwit, but same mum dropping her kids of in a 4.2 RS4 is uber ok and no doubt worthy of our respect

I think the branding of this as a tax on 4x4s is just to make the whole thing a little more palatable by playing into the hands of people's jealousy. However, I would have more of an issue with someone having a 4x4 for transporting children rather than an RS4. On the school run, they take up loads of space and have an effect on visibility (I'd far rather be helping my children across a road full of normal height vehicles than one full of 4x4s simply because I could see). And when you see them hammering down the M4 at 80, 90, 100 mph, it is a little scary. But then we've been here once or twice before on TSN
R32Ash
I don't like 4x4s myself, either. But I do like the fact people have the chioce of having one. Or did.
