tainted_love
i am after a SanDisk Extreme III Secure Digital (SD) Card 2GB but concerned over the swarm of fakes in the market. i presume this must be limited to the cards for sale on ebay but could the larger internet retailers be effected too?? eg Play.com. can anyone recommend a retailer to purchase memory cards from, any such experience of fake cards??? the price of this card varies from £17 to £70 and you wonder if the cheap price reflects its genuineness.... came across this on SanDisk site which shows a picture of the card and i noticed that some retailers show the image of the card without a notch on the bottom of the card whereas the sandisk site shows it with???? what are your recommendations guys

tainted_love
thanks mate will give them try, seem the best option. a note for everyone buying memory cards, found out that the serial numbers on some fake cards match when they are checked with the manufacturers, so be careful guys of any purchase
drpellypo
They are dead easy to tell apart though. The stickers are cheap, and the cards are slow. Oh, and you bought a £99 memory card for a tenner. That usually gives it away!
Scotty
You have to be really careful with fake stuff. I bought some Sony Ericsson headphones and the sounded degraded minute by minute. I then bought some originals and compared them. The dodgy ebay ones looked identicle. You couldn't tell them apart. Even the packaging looked spot on. Fortunately i got a full refund. DHA
Bought a fake sony memory stick off ebay. Started to go wrong and I replaced it with one from play. Looking at the two together you would not know which was which. I opened the fake and it had a samsung chip inside it. Sandisk make all of the sony stuff but you cant really pull it apart to check its real before you use it.
pingpongpo
I thought virtually all flash drives were Samsung chips inside regardless of the outer brand?
DHA
Ahh I was told that Sandisk made their own versions for the sony product. I may be wrong. Card was fecked anyways but new one works fine.
