Ipod to Cd Head Unit in VW Passat

Recommended Posts

I have a 99 Passat with factory fitted Gamma head unit , to which was added a 6 box Sony CD changer in the boot.

I have now bought an Ipod Nano that I want to use in my car.

BUT ... I don't want a cigarette lighter "plug in adapter" with cables and my new Ipod on show , I want to connect it in the glovebox (which is probably the easiest place) or in the arm wrest.

I would like to charge my Ipod whilst driving - and still have the option to use the CD player when the Ipod is disconnected - Some thing simple like that !

Any thoughts out there ?

That looks cool - but does that mean I would effectively "lose" the CD changer ?

Yes. The only way to keep the CD changer AND have an iPod connection is with the Dension Gateway 400. The slight downside is that switching between the Cd changer and the iPod is manual - there's a small slide switch to select between them.

Hi, try the Dension Gateway 400 from

This works OK with the VW factory fit autochanger, but I'm not sure about 3rd- party ones. It also gives you a USB connection so you can use one of the little memory stick things as well.

I have one of these fitted in my .:R32 - its very very good. I searched for ages for a product to connect my iPod to my MFD head unit and retain the CDC. When these came out I snapped one up - even though they are quite expensive.

Since I installed the Gateway 400 some months ago - I haven't once used the CD changer sportifs2.gif
