Ok finally got my new headlight, haven't checked the contents yet. The question is will it be a straight forward job?

I'm going to remove the bumper and then disconnect the headlight, should I be wary of storged charge in the light? then hopefully it will just be mount the new one and plug it in..............right?

Oh yeah it's a MK4

alright Martyn, how's you?

Anyway not a bad job apart from cutting myself on the broken glass, 2 hours with a couple of coffee breaks and a second refit of the bumper because I forgot to tuck the under tray in.

Next question how do I get the light to level out, I thought it was automatic?

the new unit's "base level" is different to your other one as you mention - this can be sorted by using the VAG-Com software to perform a lights reset.

when mine was done after fitting ARBs it had faults stored in the memory for the lights, nothing to worry about but they needed clearing before the software allowed an up/down complete reset. The level was adjusted by a good 4 inches on a wall 15ft in front shocked.gif

this should do the job 169144-ok.gif

Level it out manually.

Park the car facing a clean white wall (garage door for example), preferably when it's dark outside.

Lift the bonnet, and adjust the new headlamp using a phillips screwdriver by turning the white wheels on either side of the headlamp.

one wheel does the vertical movement,

the other wheel does the horizontal movement.

You dont need vagcom to do that, and vagcom won't do that either. Vagcom part is only for setting the base level setting to allow the car to know how to compensate for heavy loads

You've got it.... easy job!

Now buy a mk5 and pay £300 a year road tax!

Its a shame as i would have traded my MK4 in for a MK5 when the time comes as i love the brand but an S3 is faster and is still band F due to the smaller engine. No contest really despite the price difference coffee.gif

I was about to write a reply saying don't be stupid, when i saw you were right, that is remarkable for a 265bhp car! shocked.gif

They seemed to have sqeezed alot more out of the 2.0 fsi than VW managed with the GTI. Im begining to wonder if all this "VW wont out do Audi" lark has some truth in it 169144-ok.gif

Sorry could not find a better pic in the gallery.. BUT

I have circled ONE of the adjustment wheels for you. The other one will be easily visable when you lift the bonnet!

You stick a screwdriver in, and turn the wheel gently until you think you have the beam pattern in the correct place.

Ok, so there you have both sides..

Sorry I dont remember which side you have fitted..

obviously you only need to adjust the settings for the NEW headlamp!!!

Do it when it's dark, and adjust the new headlamp so the beam pattern is the SAME HEIGHT as the other original headlamp.

The left to right setting is gonna take a few goes.. you have to try and align the triangle cut off so it matches the other headlamp..

all will be obvious when u drive down a dark road.

the triangle beam patterns should match up, creating a powerful cut off on the nearside.. To light up the kerb side!
