drahrs
If you look at the DVLA website, I think we need to find out how to claim for TRADE tax as it's only £160 for any type of car Could there be a loop hole???
SPLiiX
Engine/Trim S line 3.0 TDI quattro 233 PS tiptronic Combined fuel consumption: 33.6 mpg CO2-Combined emissions: 226 g/km
Milo
It must be tiptronic that pushes it over. Mine is the 220PS 2.0T quattro and in manual guise it is definitely 224g/km It just shows what lunacy it is. A 1984cc engined family car is 1g/km away from being classed as a gaz-guzzling 4x4 by the Green movement. It's got nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with more taxation

SPLiiX
Sales of A6's will drop like a stone! The only A6 they will sell is a A6 Saloon Engine/Trim SE 2.0 TFSI 170 PS multitronic Combined fuel consumption: 34.4 mpg CO2-Combined emissions: 197 g/km And no Quattro in an A6 or it will be above the 225! Milo
If people think logically then it shouldn't affect residuals etc - if it was a band F car they'd be paying £220 anyway when band G is £400 so only another £3.50 a week. But the thing is, people don't always think logically and will be afraid of things to come now 'band G' has been well and truly singled out as being the devil in disguise and solely responsible for global warming. robpink
224 gms/km, phew, that was close!! Had a (very) quick spin in my mate's Porshe GT3 today, wonder what the feck that thing was blowing out
SPLiiX
The other thing is, nobody knows if the cars are over 225G/KM when they see it on the road, it's not like it has a badge or anything. Why 23rd March 2006?? Why back date it a year? Is this because he knows how many cars are actually on the road and what G/KM so he will be able to do his calculations... For instance people are not going to scrap there cars over it people will still have to tax them - Unless they take them off the road. But why would have a nice powerful car to be off the road.... Method in his Madness I suppose.
SPLiiX
The moral of the story here is: If you are going to have a car that is over 225G/KM GO THE WHOLE HOGG!!!! harddrive
Mine = 226 g/km DOH!! So a 3.2 v6 = the same CO2 as a 2.0 TFSI quattro I guess a positive way at looking at this is it will be a good selling point for someone selling a car registered before March

Lets face it, its nothing to do with emissions really, its just taxing the people who can 'afford' it since they are buying expensive cars. Look at all the old smokey rovers and the like, do they get taxed on their huge emissions?... nope...

Look at all the old smokey rovers and the like, do they get taxed on their huge emissions?... nope... [/ QUOTE ] What they should do is scrap fuel tax completely and tax our cars at something like 10% of the list price per year for the first 3 years reducing by 3% each year until you are being taxed at say 5% for band G cars and as low as 1% for band A cars. This would mean that someone who is only going to do 5k miles a year may actually stop and think 'do I really need an X5?' Would the mum doing the school run be prepared to pay £400 a month in car tax? I doubt it? It would also mean the people who do the mileage each year and keep this country going would be no worse off than they are now, say if someone does 35k miles a year, they are paying £400 a month in fuel tax (which would now be scrapped) so he could still drive round in a nice car where he is spending 5 hours a day, or if he wants to earn more money get something cleaner. Paying the tax in fuel as we do at the moment you think sod it, not much between having a 2.0tdi and a 4.2 petrol, not really when you weigh up all other costs. But if you had to pay out that tax each month in a lump of say £300, £400, £500 etc. you would seriously stop and think about it.

I have a smaller carbon footprint than most tree huggers. There's only one way - scrap car tax - tax fuel everyone pays per mile Sorted
gizze
But my point was if they really wanted to stop people from buying these big polluting cars and 4x4's that cause all the congestion that is what should be done. Would you still buy your 4.2 V8 if you had to pay £400 a month in road tax?? Or would you look at something greener but maybe just as fun? And if that did happen do you think manufacturers may push newer, greener tech along a bit quicker? Problem is the government don't want peole to stop driving these, they love the revenue they can get, we could all be in nearly completely green cars within a decade, but that is the last thing they want.
