apples
Sorry guys i have another question. While i was driving today a symbol popped up in the MFI it looks like it has an arrow pointing up and an arrow pointing down, it's top right next to the MPG, i've looked in the book but cannot see it listed. Anyone know what this is? Thanks
benjie
Has it got a little circle with it too? If so, that's the average reading. So whatever that mpg is that'll be your average, scroll through and there's an average speed too.
apples
Thanks for the reply benjie, it's actually the other side of the circle thing with a line through it, i will try to get a pic as it's bugging me Pic: (it's the one top right, i've circled it but can hardly seen the cicle anyway)
Rustynuts
That's a number 2. There's also a number 1. On the underside of the wiper stalk there's a button. A short press on it will change this number from 1 to 2 and again will change it back again. It's the memory bank for the trip computer. 1 is a running total of mpg etc. until you reset it, and 2 is a self resetting total after 2 hours of ignition off. Or vice versa.... apples
Hmmmm, how comes it came on, on it's own just while i was driving along? Thanks for the info mate
Rustynuts
Some settings in the memory are common to both banks, such as actual mpg. In this instance neither the 1 or the 2 will be shown.
apples
Just been out in the car again tonight, and it's not a number 2, it's got like an arrow pointing both ways at the top, a dot in the middle, and something at the bottom like a larger arrow
SamD
Did you press the button under the stalk to see if it changes?

[/ QUOTE ] It's vice versa, but the point is the same! I was going to ask if it was a number earlier but didn't. That should defo only say 1 or 2 up there. Try pressing the button under your wiper stalk and see what happens!
apples
If i press the button it changes from 1 to 2, that's how i know this isn't a 2 as it looks totally different.
_Tone_
The "1" is the current Trip values. After 2 hours these reset. The "2" accumulates time/average speed/ average mpg etc up to a certain value then resets. So at each fill up I reset both 1 and 2. the bank 2 allows me to see what my average mpg (amongst others) was for that tank of fuel. The 1 as said above will reset if you dont use the car for 2 hours. Hope this helps!
benjie
Can you get a picture of it because it seems to be baffling us all and we're all starting to repeat what each other is saying! What spec car have you got, I know it's a diesel. Is it the 115 GT TDI?
apples
Oops! it is a number 2, after stearing at it for 5 mins i worked it out, sorry guys one question though, in the first picture i had that circle with the line going through it at the start of the MPG reading, then all of a sudden this 2 appeared, how can i get rid of this 2 and just have the circle thingy? Thanks, and my apologies
SamD
You're gonna have to do a more zoomed in picture, I can only see that as a 2 to be honest
benjie
You always have to have a number 1 or number 2 in that top corner mate - it's there to show you whether you're on the short term trip computer (1) or the long term one (2). It doesn't go away I'm afraid!
apples
Wasn't there before mate, just the circle thingy. Oh well, suppose i'll have to get used to it there. Thanks
Rustynuts
If you set the computer to a reading that is common to both banks then the number doesn't show up. So if you drive with the computer set to read the mpg you're actually doing at the present time rather than a cumulative reading for the journey, this is the same reading whichever memory bank you're in, so no numbers. You know you can cycle through different settings in each memory bank with the button on the end of the wiper stalk, don't you?
benjie
I think rusty has hit the nail on the head!
benjie
He was right, I was on my way back from the gym today and was messing with it and the 1/2 symbol does disappear when the current mpg is shown!
