marco21
Hi, I am new to this Audi Forum, recently had a Mk 5 GTI but sold that and am now looking for a A4 Cab. I want to buy new, prob looking for the same engine as the GTI. (2.0 T). I am a little confused with the options of the audi though, especially the S line. I would be wanting to get the 2.0T S line but after looking at options you can also get the S line exterior pack for £750.00. Could anyone tell me if this is just for normal cabs or can you still get a exterior pack added to the original s line car?? I would also be looking for black, advice on which paint would also be good....pearl or metallic or solid? And finally wheels. I think the standard wheels are 18" 5 arms....i was wondering if anyone has pics of their cars with 19" 5 arms? Thanks for your help. Cupramax
Sline pack is available on top of the normal Sline stuff, its basically a different front bumper I think and a bit of a ripoff if you ask me. Be aware the Sline suspension is pretty hard, 19's may be a bit too much unless you like a really jarring ride. Its not such a good idea as there is a bit of body flex as it is and this will just make the car shudder over big bumps.
Drinks
As Cupramax says the sline exterior pack is just a different front bumper in the main. Gcab has it on his and it does make it look a bit meaner but it's a bit rich for me. versus
marco21
I def prefer the top one. Its more of a criss cross grill am i right? So basically for the £750 option thats all you get? What about the colour? I previously paid £500 for the metallic black on the golf. Would everyone agree that on audis its best to pay the little extra and get this or not? Chav
solid black looks best IMO Newer B7 phantom black metallic seems a bit darker than B6 metallic black whatever that was called. Metallic blacks often look like charcoal rather than real black to me.
Chav
s-line external pack also gets you a different rear valance. slightly chunkier and more grey than the black standard one.
marco21
So maybe its an idea to just get the solid black (which isnt any extra!)rather than paying out another 500 quid for the metallic. either way black is nightmare to get clean!! I will def be getting the extra s line exterior kit now. Love that nose!!
Leon3000
Id say get the metallic (not that I am biased!). It does look far better than 'flat black'. Dont go for 19's the ride is hard on 18's (which I like) but would'nt want it harder.
Dblanc
If you want to see the 2.0T S line (with exterior pack) in phantom black then click on the link in my sig. Personally I think that the exterior pack is one of the best options that you can buy and was really glad that I added it at the last minute. Although £750 for it is a complete con. Go to the dealer and get them to show you one with and one without and I guarantee that you will order it. As for the 19" wheels, I would give these a miss. The ride with the 18" and s line suspension borders on what is acceptable IMHO.
AH101
I'm with Dblanc on this, I ordered it (although it is a rip off) and don't regret it at all....when you compare the cars side by side there is a big difference. Also stick to the 18" wheels, ride is comfortable and not too firm.....19" wheels would be too hard
Chav
Exterior pack is ok but the B6 cab still looks more aggressive in S4 guise IMO. I only "upgraded" as I do high mileage and the quicker roof and nicer (servotronic) steering is useful. Plus wanted more gadgets and the 3.0TDI is a peach. I still think B7's look kind of girlie from the front. Not sure why. RS4 front end looks much nicer. You can't tell the difference though between 18 and 19 wheels from a ride pov. s-line suspension is bumpy regardless of wheel size IMO. The saloon is a much nicer (and sportier) ride due to less weight, but the roof doesn't come down on them!
marco21
That helps alot, so s line exterior a definate now. Prob stick to solid black rather than metallic. and after what most said about the ride on the 18"s i will stick with those too. Only other options i wanted were the BOSE sound system and the ipod kit. would everyone approve of those and if anything else i have missed off which is a must please tell!! Cheers
ian_m
heated seats are a must, as is a wind deflector, I also think that rear park sensors are a must, rear view on the cab can be awkward when the roof is up - although thats not very often for me
Cupramax
Yep, agree with Smitters on the above. Also the acoustic hood makes a big difference, I believe all the diesels get this as standard and it really is good. So the must haves... BOSE, rear parking sensors, heated seats & wind deflector. ian_m
I have the acoustic hood, but cant really comment on whether its worth the extra - the last time I drove a cab without it was 2004 - if you are that bothered by the acoustic hood - try to test drive one with and one without to see if you can notice a difference
Drinks
I don't have the acoustic hood on mine and can't imagine it makes that much difference. I never notice that much noise. I guess it depends on what type of driving you do and if you have passengers to consider. Having said that I probably have the hood down 80% of the time. Which further reinforces the heated seats and wind deflector as essentials.
ian_m
I think the acoustic hood might be worth it on tractors like mine I also have the roof down a lot too Infact I am about to go out for a spin as its glorious sunshine here
Dblanc
I would go for heated seats, wind deflector, rear parking sensors as a must. I have to thank the guys here for making me order a wind deflector, it means that you can get the roof down far more often. If you do any motorway driving then it makes life much more pleasant. I do have the acoustic hood, but can't say what difference this makes, having never driven the normal one. Although the dealer did say the difference was marked and I had already placed my order, so he wasn't trying to sell it. Personally I decided against BOSE as I don't think the sound quality of the normal stereo is bad, but I know others on here disagree. I also have the IPOD kit and would recommend it, despite the fact you can't see the track names as saves messing around with CDs. However if you do get the IPOD kit I think the multifunctional steering wheel is a must as you will be flicking through tracks all the time. One alternative would be to drop the BOSE and IPOD kit and get SATNAV retrofitted and use the SD cards to store the music. I wish I had done this
Chav
accoustic hood makes a difference at 80mph+ on motorways etc and when its raining hard!
Cupramax
One of my mates works for Bentley (owned by VAG as we know) in their R&D dept and apparently the acoustic hood on the A4 was a development platform for the GTC hood! Good enough for them, good enough for me
