DanG
Now, I am not saying I am tight, but I like to read magazines in Sainsbury's and then not buy them, so appologies if I dont have all the details but..... In a certain mag, Autocar I think, they had a comparison of the new M3 v the RS4... Basically both do 0-60 in 4.8 secs, both develop 414bhp and both top out at 155mph..... Sounded pretty similar... only thing was the price, with the BMW being slightly cheaper. Now I cant believe that BMW would produce and then release a car to match its closest rival without doing something to make it better, even on paper. Anyone else read this? I was sure the BMW would be quicker..... or will they be producing an even more powerful CSL version perhaps? (4.4 V8???)

Woppum
Apparently the M3V8 is in a very weak form of tune. A CSL will probably become available with about 450bhp+

330dcoupe
I was reading the article about 2 hours ago - from what i remember, the Audi is out in front in terms of Torque (think theres a 30-40Ib ft difference) but the M3 is lighter than the RS4. BMW have always produced great mid-range pull in their naturally aspirated motors...even when the figures didn't say much - it always feels a bit more than other equivalent cars. Woppum
The BMW has 6bhp more and is lighter. The RS4 has 250bhp/ton The E92 M3 will have around 260bhp/ton The E46 CSL has 260bhp/ton I was expecting that power out of the new M3 but am disappointed with the weight. This is all from first glance. In my book at the moment the new M3 only has 10% more appeal than the RS4. It should be completely outweighed. CarMad
Lets not forget not every M3 has been a stunner some have seriously missed the mark. Admittedly they haven't missed much recently but it might happen. I would only get an M3 as a Saloon something they are doing this time around, I've never been one to drool over a coupe. We are after all comparing a 4 door saloon or estate to a car with only 2 doors, there will be a difference in weight etc.

[/ QUOTE ] The votes are 3 out towards the RS4... what does that prove?!? One car people know about and have knowledge of, the other is currently pure speculation. Or are we meant to be able to see into the future and read the reviews. I voted for the RS4, I want something I can live with everyday and as stated I like Saloons, simple as that. No Audi bias here thanks.

My intention was never for this to get heated just stir a bit of decent debate. It just seem the Gti and S3 boys have all the fun. I had it with the R32, why wont anyone play with me! NewNiceMrMe
[ QUOTE ] Oh and its now dead level.. yep pure bias. [/ QUOTE ] Oh put your halo round your neck. You know as well as I do that a good proportion of people on here would buy an Audi over a BMW even if it drove like sh1te, looked like sh1te and was sh1te. Its a fact, and for you to ignore it makes you look silly. It wasn't directed at anyone in particular. The comment is a relevant one and most people on here know it. Adam
really? looking at those two pictures the M3 is awful and I would go for the RS4 every time (even if I am not keen on sprint blue and prefer the saloon). All very subjective though - RR thinks the M3 has style which is never a word I associate with modern BMWs but usually do with Audis. M3 is brash in-yer-face, RS4 is subtle and does not shout its performance and only those in the know would kknow what it is. That said if I was single and w/o kids like you Wopps I would not consider any 4 door saloon or avant. Would be a coupe all the way and probably a 911 not an M3. Woppum
I dont think I will go for either to be honest just too partial to mine. Really want to like it, and do - just not loosing massively excited by it. CSL on the other hand... Well its ages away
Adam
[ QUOTE ] The M3 will handle better [/ QUOTE ] I doubt in any meaningful way to 99% of people unless you regularly track your car. I predict the M3 will have slightly better cornering and steering feel when you are travelling round bends at 9 or 10/10ths on a fantastic deserted Welsh roads. Which is great for pub bragging but not so relevant for real-world drving on normal roads with normal UK weather.
