skifly
All - have a problem with a word document not opening and is getting an error message that the file is corrupted. Anone know any good ways to recover it as there are no backups that we can get to - the machine it was on was rebuilt a couple of days ago!! Any help will be appreciated. Tried the following so far: - different machines - different versions of word - open and repair functionality - wordpad - notepad etc (which can open file but with all the non-printing characters showing etc...) Ideas really appreicated as am in a bit of a pickle to say the least!
drpellypo
There is a plethora of apps to fix this. Just type 'fix corrupt word document' in Google and you will find something. A lot of the apps have a one document trial mode.
Snail
Have you tried a search on google? or the MS Office website? or in the downloads section of www.cnet.com?
skifly
yup - not tried any of the apps yet as they all look like they will not do a full document. Any recommendations?
Sparky
Try opening it using WordPad. A lot of formatting will be lost but you'll get the text out of it.
skifly
wordpad isnt even playing ball on this one!! Anyways - managed to get the text out of it and passed it on to an analyst to try re-create everything. Feck!

skifly
nordberg - i would love to be able to email it to you but unfortunately it is a relatively sensitive piece of work we are doing for a client. Any ideas on us being able to recover it. Our IT guys had no luck claiming that it is probably due to all the embedded visio diagrams and screenshots in the doc (this is the pain to do again - the text i recovered was minor). nordberg
Not really apart from buying some recovery software. I use Ontrack EasyRecovery which works 95% of the time....
