Warning Lights - any ideas ?

I have a 2004 Audi A4 Cab which we are very pleased with.It is just out of warranty.

Last weekend whilst driving along the Emission Control system warning light came on AND the ESP light came on - both together.

Booked into local Audi dealer and they could not find a fault. They said they put it on the "computer" and there was no fault, htye tried to reset the system but it would not reset. They replaced the Air Flow meter. Still no different.

I collected the car as they said there was no "fault", but the lights are still on. They want the car for another day, but I am reluctant to spend £75 per hour for nothing.

Any one had similar or any idea's ?

Someone told me to disconnect the battery for an hour, which i did. When i reconnected and started it up - no lights! - But went for a drive and they came back on.

The engine light means it's nothing to do with the brakes. They did the right thing by changing the air flow meter, as the air flow signals are used to calculate torque which can cause the ESP to throw a wobbly if the signals aren't correct.

I can't understand why a fault scan showed nothing. If you have the engine light on, there MUST be a fault code somewhere. Usually you get a code on the Instrument Panel (telling you to check the Engine module) and then obviously in the Engine module.

Try getting a scan done elsewhere?

I disagree!

Although its probably fair to say that the brake switch may not be the cause, i have definately experienced an engine management light on due to a faulty brake pedal switch.

I had the same problem with my A2. Kept getting sent away from audi and they just cleared the computer with no problems, but once out of the show room approx 10 miles away the light kept come back on. I then complained after several £110 diagnostics checks and they suddenly found a fault. The nox sensor had gone and a coil pack was breaking down on a cylinder £500 in total but all ok now !

That's what failed in my last TDI. Brake switch failed, causing engine management light to come on. Engineer first checked if my brake lights came on and then said it's the foot pedal switch.
