Whats wrong with my rear end?

Hi members

Just a quick question. This is the second pair of new tyres on the rear that I notice has worn from the inside of the tyres out, almost 3/4 width of the tyres. Tyre pressures are checked every two weeks so no problem there. This is a FWD A8. Any recommendations near the MK or surrounding areas with the correct equipment for tracking correction or am I missing something - if so what can be the cause?

I don't do that many miles. I had put on 4 new pirelli aysometrics (I think that how its spelt)after the rear dunlops were worn but thought nothing of it about three years ago. The rear wore the same so I changed front to rears, no change. Eventually I put a set of continentals on the rear had it balanced etc. I now noticed they are doing the same thing. In all that time if I said I did 15000 miles in the last three yeas that would be a lot. I have never had an alignment done would this help?

Would be worth getting a full geometry set up done. When you consider the cost of replacing tyres that are wearing before they should then it's well woth the outlay.

The FULL jobbie can cost over £200 at the stealers. shocked.gif Normally well worth it tho. I wont let anyone else near mine when it comes to this!

When you do the alignment fill up your tank with fuel. I've got a FWD as well and wait for it have never had to replace the rear tyre as yet and I've covered 36K miles on them and I'm lugging around 60Kg worth of sound equipment all the time EEK2.GIFsmile.gif so defo something wrong with your set up there frown.gif

Oh mines a '97 v6 with 130k on the clock as well 169144-ok.gif

Can't recommend anywhere for alignment down that end of the country, but sounds like you've found somewhere anyway.

...what effect would that have with regards to the set-up?

The geometry changes as the car is loaded up with weight - even with relatively clever suspension set-ups like on the A8. Better to have it aligned perfectly with some weight in it.
