sufu
Evening all Just had a weird experience in my car, as soon as I started the engine I got a big read exclamation mark in a big red circle on the DIS, it disappeared after a few seconds, but then the second wierd thing happened, the external temp reading was saying 24 degrees! Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong? or even better, does anyone in the York area have Vagcom and willing to swap some of their time for a few beers? Paul
Its a fault in the braking system. Could be something like brake fluid level or brake pad sensor indicating pads need changing. ABS and Brake light bulb failure should have their own fault indicators.
Paul
[ QUOTE ] the external temp reading was saying 24 degrees! Anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong? [/ QUOTE ] not beyond the realms of possibility. [ QUOTE ] THE country will bask in glorious sunshine this weekend as temperatures reach their highest levels of the year, weather forecasters have predicted. Thermometers in parts of Britain are expected to hit 24C-25C (75F-77F) about ten degrees above the seasonal average in the coming days. [/ QUOTE ] My own car was reading 22.5 degrees on the way home this afternoon. that was at 17.30.

AntW
had you been out for a drive and been braking heavily? Maybe a combination of hot brakes and hot weather caused a pad to stick and therefore the warning?

I think I'll still have the garage look at it, better safe than sorry
colly
Check your brake fluid - I get the exclamation mark every time my fluid is low (I have a leak on the back calliper so I see the warning all the time!) Also it was 24 degrees yesterday..

I've just checked the brake fluid level, and it seemed a bit low, so I topped it up, started the engine and checked the brakes. No warning lights, but upon checking the fluid level again, it had dropped, so topped it up again, and repeated... yet again it had dropped! So I'm thinking it's a leak somewhere, but I there's no sign of a leak anywhere, the system seems to be maintaing pressure absolutely fine! Here's a question though... while changing pads would it have been possible to "lose" some brake fluid? Just had the rear pads changed about a month or so ago... TDiAvant
No, in fact you may have excess fluid in the reservoir, due to the piston being pushed back into the caliper.
sufu
As it doesn't seem to be a leak, what would be the best course of action? Bleed the system and start again?
