AZURES3
Whilst giving it a good clean today I thought I would see how the tyres were wearing after 4,000 mils. The front tyres seem about half worn the rears seem about 1-2mm better off. I am going to check them properly but I would be suprised if I see more than 12,000 miles from the Conti Sport Contact 2 tyres. I am going to get the fronts and back swapped at 6,000 miles. Anyone else checked theirs, Rob you have about 8,000 miles on your new S3 so would be interested to know yours Maybe its my driving as I cant get over 26 MOG either with the average being 23 MPG AZ
D1MAC
Is the tyre wear even? If it ain't the tracking then it sounds like you like Chernobyl wellies I wouldn't necessarily worry about the fuel - if 26mpg is the official figure then you probably have no hope & Bob Hope of matching it - not quite the same but if you can meet an Asbo owner who can get anywhere near the 30mpg quoted figure then you are a lucky chap - 25ish is doing well. The official figures are done under VERY extreme circumstances!

geo_nr1
I have those tyres on my R32 and find the mileage very poor. I tend to get approx 8-11k out of them!!
S3Rob
I checked mine a week or so ago and they are noticeably worn obviously, but I wasn't hugely concerned at the time. I'll have another look soon though just to check. D1MAC - 31mpg is the official combined figure. It is optimistic like you say, more like 28 in the real world for me. [/ QUOTE ] I do give it some stick most of the time but I really cant get above 25 MPG unless on a motorway. Should I try the gears above 3 I love the thrust & traction so much I seem to leave most lights & junctions in a hurry Probably why I will need new tyres at 8,000 miles AZ
stevie_d
Az mate, yeah, the tyres are wearing already on mine and I've only done 2.5k... She does tempt you to use that right foot tho
prt57
I can't really comment on the tyre wear yet as I have yet to reach 1000 miles. On the other hand AZ how much wellie are you giving your S3 to get that mpg?? I did 270 miles today going up from B'ham to North Wales and back home the long way. This was a combination of motor ways, fast A roads and some slow stuff behind lorries. I made fairly fast progress without being mental and my overall mpg was 35. Max rpm was under 4000 as I am still being kind. On the other hand 4000rpm in 6th gear could still produce points on the licence! Is it above 4000rpm when the S3 develops a terrible thirst? prt
S3Rob
Full throttle, overtakes, above 4000rpm or 85mph all use a lot of fuel, as you would expect. If you're getting 35mpg on a 270 mile trip you are very light with the throttle. Didn't you feel the urge to blast past a couple of cars? I've also found that mine uses a slightly comedy amount from a cold start for some reason.

[/ QUOTE ] That is my problem, my journey to work is 5 miles and takes 10 minutes so it is using the alcoholic level of fuel for most of the journey. Did you check you tyres Rob ?
