dmg11eng
Hi all, Being in the position to order a new S3 to run as my next company car I have some questions about the new S3 ride quality. Questions are as follows, how does the new S3 compare to the current S-Line ride quality?? I ran an A3 S-line, followed by a Golf GTi and found the S-Line to be much harsher. Also Is the new S3 more compliant than the S-Line during normal cruising?? Many thanks P.S. My mk2 TT rides more smoothly and handles better than either, but I fully appreciate it is a different car
AZURES3
With the use of aliminium suspecnsion components they seem to have used a far better suspension setup than the S-Line IMHO, with the 2.0 TFSI engine too is obviously about 75Kg lighter than the 3.2. I came from a B6 A4 S-Line and find the car a revelation for Audi suspension, it is firm no doubt but not in the way the A4 was by far. Everyone prefers different styles but a good test drive will give you the best answer. AZ
S3Rob
Yep, go for a test drive for sure. It's so subjective it's hard to say. Personally I think it's a very well judged set up although it is stiff so does get bouncy over very bumpy roads. Doesn't stop it gripping though

The TT certainly doesnt handle better than the S3. The S3 has better handling than either the GTI and TT (non Mag ride), but it is at the expense of a bit of ride comfort. I tend not to notice it unless I'm on rough B roads. What the S3 doesnt do is sound as nice as the TT
stevie_d
Yeah, the suspension is a little harsh over big bumps, but it's not uncomfortable imho
Jamiekip
It's a big improvement on the old S3 thats for sure! My opinion it is firm, has very little roll in corners. On motorways it cruises OK, never seems to crash, not even over cat's eyes - but if you hit some subsidence on the motorway it's not smoothed out very much - but then it's a sports car!!! I wouldn't change it and is far less crashy than the 2.0 TFSI S-line I had for a few weeks.
dmg11eng
You've just hit the nail on the head for me. "it and is far less crashy than the 2.0 TFSI S-line I had for a few weeks" I had an A3 TDi Quattro S-Line and vowed never to have a crashy ride like that again......Around town it was just uncomfortable and passangers complained ALL the time. Seems I may be making an order after all..... Now onto the options...........
Chins
Make sure you get Bose, lot better than the MK2 TT. Ive Leather and Alcantara in my S3 and love that. Flat bottomed steering wheel essential and GSM prep IMHO.
Jamiekip
Glad I was of help Make sure you order lumbar support - a lot of people complained about the s-line seats - and though some have noted that the S3 seats are slightly different, it's a worth addition!!! Second the comments above - flat bottomed wheel & BOSE absolute musts. I didn't go for the GSM prep, but wish I did now - thought I'd be ok with a simple cradle and bluetooth headset but yet to find a cradle that sits in the air vent suitably (just shakes around a lot!!). Anyone know if you can retrofit GSM phone prep in the armrest??????? Hope that helps.
dmg11eng
Prob sepc as follows: Spirit Blue, GSM, Symphony, BOSE, Armrest, No Smoking Pack, Piano Inlays, Cruise, Flat Bottom Multi-Function Steering Wheel, L & R sens Anything I've missed.....?? S3Rob
Nav? You get the £2k back come resale time so the rumour goes..? Lumbar support? I don't have it and don't miss it but every one else seems to have a back problem without it! Sprint Blue looks great in the flesh btw
stevie_d
Some people say the piano black can scratch easily, but then someone else said he had an 8L with it and it was fine in that...something else to consider tho. As others have said; Bose - fantastic, decent sound quality and goes very loud Lumbar - gives a bit more support Nav - I think it's excellent, but it's very expensive and can be retrofitted! Flat-bottomed wheel - lifts the cabin a bit Interior light pack - only thing I wish I had
spook
Recaro bucket seats, perhaps?
DigimeisTTer
[ QUOTE ] Recaro bucket seats, perhaps? [/ QUOTE ] V. Nice but not worth the money IMHO and very difficult to get in the back, couldn't get the old dear in the back guaranteed she moaned about mine Oh and defo do not go for the non smoking pack - a hole in the dash {where the ashtray should be) doesn't look to aesthetically pleasing
Jamiekip
Piano Black looks good and i've not got a mark on mine yet! Sprint blue is THE best colour IMO... but I'm biased!!
