Roof Problems

Hi all, I was closing my roof today and it was just about to lock when I had to move the car quickly as someone was going to back into me but then I had a problem that I couldnt close the roof after that.

I had to use the special key to lock the roof, but now it wont open.

I can open it with the key but then the roof still doesnt work.

It seems that when it is locked closed it tries to open as you can hear the locking mechanism working but doesnt open. But if you unlock it with a key, it seems to go into manuial mode.

the only thing I didnt do was to lock the storage box as this had already closed.

Please can someone help me without me needing to go to Audi as I am off on my hols on Wednesday so I wont be able to sort it out until I got back.

Have you tried removing the battery leads and reconnecting after a few minutes ? Make sure you have your radio code

have you tried manually lifting the roof boot section up to the vertical position (its quite heavy) and then pulling the fabric roof back and down into the boot.

then turn on ignition.

something like that anyway, if its still in warranty give audi assist a bell on 0800699999 - they're familiar with this kind of thing.

e.g. lowering/raising the roof on a steep slope can feck it up too. usually, manually lifting the roof boot bit up and pulling it down then turning on the ignition helps it reset its sequence.

you also need to do this if you accidentally turn off the ignition whilst raising/lowering etc!

mmm, not thought about that - I may try and open the roof manually and then try and see if it will close automatically.

Hi Chav, that didnt work, so I tried to call the Tech help but they are closed over the weekend but I figured it out.

Note to anyone else who has this problem with their roof.

Close the Roof and lock the storage box and roof with the key.

Then press the roof button to close it and it will make a funny noise.

Whilst it is making this noise, unlock the roof using the key and push it up slightly and gently.

The roof should now close.

then the roof is ok.

I broke my roof over he weekend.

I have the one touch module and so was convinced it was that.

Parked up and raised the roof - but turned off the ignition - as it turned out - just as the boot deck was about the lock.

The whole thing stopped!

Drove to the dealer (only five minutes from the gym where it all happened for all to see )

They were great about it .. lowered the roof manually and unlocked the boot deck using a key I had never seen (RTFM I KNOW NOW)

And then it all came back to life.

Dodgy moment though - I was convinced it was the one-touch - but it turned out to be that I had switched off the ignition at a critical point in the close process !!!

Think I will read the manual tonight
