Juddering from engine

Was out on a run tonight to pick someone up from the airport and as I aint been on the motorway for a while I've noticed a juddering from the engine as I try to accelerate from 3gear and upwards. Almost as if it is hesitating a bit. Putting my foot flat to the floor helps a bit but it's still there.

Car was in for a service 3 weeks ago and mechanic said I had a coil or spark plug stuck in so he had to force it which snapped the coil. Said he fixed it up but waiting for coils to come in to get it replaced. Could this be the problem? A misfiring cylinder?

The car is fine in 1st and 2nd but anything higher is juddering up to about 4k revs.

Any help would be great thanks confused.gif

Sounds familiar. Check with the dealer if it has had the 6463 update (VW's own remap) If not then get it put on as this was developed to specfically cure this particular problem. Worked a treat for mine. It was free under warranty but i suppose you will be out of that by now 169144-ok.gif

It's very unlikely the 6463 update hasn't been applied to your car.

There's a strong possibility it could be the MAF sensor - a common problem on the R32. It won't have been picked up when it was serviced as it's an electronic component that fails.

Also a possibility 169144-ok.gif

Coil pack failure is, however, normally noticeable throughout the rev range.

I've got four spares, but not, sorry, they're not available for sale.

I hope it is, as they replaced the MAF sensor last year, the car has the 6463 update, couldn't think what else it could be.

Coming up to my 40k service and having no problems (touch wood) but would it be sensible to change the MAF sensor anyway around now? 169144-ok.gif

I went in last year and said that mpg was down on what I was normally getting, and they came back and said the MAF sensor needed replacing and they did that under warranty, so as it didn't cost anything I let them get on with it, but I reckon it might be worth getting them to check it out.

phoned the garage today and it was confirmed there will be no coil packs in scotland till 7th May!

taking car to garage tomorrow to let them see the problem. he said it sounds like a coil though

I ordered mine the other week and was given a date of 8th May so that sounds about right.
