What Wax/Polish do you use to look after your GTI?

Just about to order a new Edition 30 from Euro Imports

(either Steel Grey or Diamond Black).

Was wondering what Wax/Polish everyone uses to keep their GTI looking like new. I've currently got a Pearlescent Black Civic Type R and the paint work isn't the best. I want to look after my GTI a little better.

Cheers in advance

My car is two years old now and I thought I would treat it to a good wax at the weekend.

Washed the car

Clayed with Meguiars Quick Detailer (cant believe how smooth the paint is after this)

Washed again

PC'd the car using Sonus white pad and Sonus SFX-2

PC'd the car again with Klasse All-In-One and blue Sonus pad

Finished off with a coat of Poorboy's Natty’s Blue Wax

before you sign up with euro imports try simpledeal.co.uk they are really helpfull and very realistic on time and the price is right. Supaguard is the product you need get the supplier to treat your car and ask them for the after treatment box. simpledeal do it for £199 inside and out as well. znaika.gif

Try Meguiars trim detailer on your plastics, its cracking stuff. I have heard from various sources that peanut butter (yes you read correctly)Also comes up a treat. I bought a bottle of Megs trim detailer when I got the car in March 06 and theres still plenty left though to be fair, the car did not get too many details last year due to the hosepipe ban, i just jet washed it.

Back to the original topic, Honda paint is very soft whereas VAG paint is notoriously hard so you should find that with a little care and correct washing technique, that you keep her looking pristine. as mentioned above, detailingworld is the place to go for more info than you can shake a stick at, very helpful guys on there. 169144-ok.gif

I use the Megs NXT too. Goes on easy comes off easier and smells way too nice. Leaves a nice wet shine on the DBP.

For the plastic care try poor boys trim restorer. Can be used on the interior also, keeping the matt finish. Only note I'd make is it seems to wash away on the side skirts. Not with spray but when water runs down the car while standing.

What does everyone use on the plastic bumpers and sills on their GTIs. Looking for something quick to apply that gives good results. Tried Autoglym bumpercare but not all that impressed with it.

I use the Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer. Good at taking of any wax residue left by the dealer sportifs2.gif, easy to apply and lasts.

I agree that the VAG paint is very hard. After I had done the above including using a machine polisher twice there were still swirls left on the paint work.

According to the guys at detailing world the only way you will make any impression on VAG paint is to use the Menzerna range of products and a machine polisher.

Once done though, with the correct washing technique, you should only need a light go with the polisher once a year 169144-ok.gif

claybar

Clearkote cutting compound (for scratches and swirls)

poorboys SSR2 (for scratches and swirls)

Clearkote vanilla hand glaze

Clearkote cab wax

Most tyre dressings are good as along as you spray / apply them to a sponge rather than using directly on the tyre and creating a mess.

hey mikemod....did you get your GTI from Philips in Lisburn ?..I'm also in N Ireland and I'm looking for another good VW dealer over here as I'm not happy with the dealer that supplied the car...can you recommend Philips ?

I am also in NI, not sure what part you are in. Which dealer supplied your car, would be good info for us all here.

For my opinion, avoid at all costs Donnelly VW in Campsie. Have used service dept in Edwin May Coleraine which has impressed so far, not so sure about their sales though. They took a major hump just because I would not commit to buying a £21k car on my first visit to them and also when they found out I was going to try another VW dealer!

Try the Meguiars Deep Crystal System. Its cheap but does the trick. You may improve the look and protection by upgrading on the wax. I have played around with Meguiars NXT Generation Tech wax, #21 Synthetic Sealant, #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax but have finaly settled on #16 Professional Paste wax (hard to find).

Pics of my golf (23,000kms) using the Deep Crystal System:

Yep, looks good.

Clearning forum seems to rate Collinite over Megs, so next wax that's what I'll go for. If you haven't visited the Clearning forum, trust me, it's THE most informative thread on TSN and full of pearls of wisdom!

Unless Megs actually sponsored me large amounts of money, I personally wouldn't have their name on my car though. znaika.gif
