rsclzcd
Made a balls up while cleaning my ED30 last night - 'parked' the windscreen wipers up so I could clean the windscreen and when I lent inside to reach something I knocked the wiper stalk caused the wipers to move and catch the back edge of the bonnet. What a tit! Its taken the paint off in two spots, and scratched a line of about an inch between the two spots. Its only minor to be honest but it still annoyed me as its only 6 weeks old! My question is - would it be easy to get hold of 'black pearl' touch up paint and do it myself, or should I just give in and get it done by a pro? Thought I'd ask you fellas before I start getting quotes. Cheers!
RedRobin
You might get more "professional" response by posting this in the Cleaning forum. At least have a look in that forum for info/tips. HTH
petsy
just get the touchup paint from your dealer and apply it yourself. where the wipers "gouged" the paintwork is at the edge of the bonnet and out of normal sight. something similiar happened to me in the past when I tried moving forward with the wipers in the service position. I touched it up with just the paint and it's not noticable.
rsclzcd
Thanks for that, I keep forgetting about the other forums as I'm always on this one!
wantmygti
My wipers are disabled when the bonnet is open??
rsclzcd
yeah its out of sight, but I still know its there! Which is bad enough! I'll give the dealer a bell, see if they can sort me out a pot, thanks petsy!
rsclzcd
The bonnet was closed, but the wipers up and away from the windscreen. You can't lift them up when they are in the normal position as they catch on the bonnet.
wantmygti
Oh I'm with you, you lifted them off the screen and then caught the stalk. My mistake.
RedRobin
I haven't used it yet but I got a small aerosol can of primer and one of VW Tornado Red from my local autobits shop.
petsy
for this particular job I suggest you apply the paint using the supplied brush in the vw touchup paint package. provided the surface is fresh with no oxidation or rust, just brush it on and let it dry. I didn't use any of the lacquer that also came in the pack.
rsclzcd
sounds good, I'll see if I can get this touch up pack from my local dealer, it only happened last night so obviously no rust etc. (yet..) thanks again

Tarmac_Terrorist
Halfrauds also sell a good touch up pack for the VW colour range. The brush is very fine and ideal for future tiny stone chips. It's about £8 iirc
Shadowman
I scraped a wing mirror last year (on my garage wall ) and managed to do a patch up job myself which I'm quite proud of. I used the VW touch in paint, then applied the lacquer. Then I waited a week and cut it back smooth to the surrounding area with some AutoGlym Paint Renovator. I reckon if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't notice it. It just shows if you take your time you can get some good results by hand on your own. Just wait for the lacquer to properly harden over a week or so before trying to cut it back smooth.
ysabelle
Do a search on 'Langka'. I used this on my previous cars and it actually worked! Just blob on your touch up paint and rub the langka over the top until the blob levels out.
