MKV GTI to MKV R32 front end swap

Asked the question here before, but didn't get any answers. Worth another try: does anybody know if the MKV GTI front end will bolt straight on to the MKV R32? And if not, what internal modifications would be required? Has anybody actually done this?

Spoken to a few body shop and tuning peeps. Big Boys Toys were looking into it for me at one point, but VW were apparently not particularly interested in divulging any information, and I've yet to hear back from BBT themselves. QVR in Northants are now on the case.

As an aside, for those of you not happy with the MKV bling-o-matic cheap chrome front bit, here's a photo of a colour coded one by QVR (bottom of page).

Apparently the guy's wife wanted the car in the darker standard blue. Now, personally, if I was going to fork out a few grand for a full strip-down respray I wouldn't choose a colour readily (relatively speaking) available as standard. But each to their own.

Been eyeing this with envious eyes though:

The fella at QVR was very friendly and very happy to help. Think I'm going to pop up there soon to discuss some colour options. Also discovered how nice and helpful the Awesome GTI boys in Manchester are today. A day full of friendly folk but no real answers... it's become a bit of a mission now.

In theory, it should definitely swop - All variations of Golf Mk5 production. Check out those yankee rich kids on GOLFMKV's Cosmetics forum - They love modding their Rabbits in all sorts of ways.

Rather than make your car look like a GTI, why not just make it individual? For example, you can get an all carbonfibre 'R32'/GLI/Passat/Jetta nose piece to replace the silver one.

RS32 has already done the bling removal

and I will echo the sentiments about Awesome - I've had loads of work done there, always every helpful.

Thanks for the link! Kinda stuck on the GTI front end - not sold on any of the available aftermarket kits. A colour code would be the only thing I'd do if I was to keep the R32 nose. But like I said, I'm on a mission and nothing else will do at this point... wink.gif

Looking good! Still not as mean looking as I was hoping (couldn't really get a proper feel for it from the small QVR snap). The GTI is the one for me, with added Edition 30 spoiler I think. Obviously I won't be leaving the GTI badge on there...

Yeah, Awesome were great. I'd be happy to make the trip to Manchester based on that one friendly call. Just goes to show.

....18yo? 16yo?

But if you factor in my age of 60 (I'm registered there) then it raises the average age somewhat! grin.gif. There is some useful info in there amongst it though and I've actually met face to face 2 guys in the UK via that forum, one of whom who's a good guy and gave me a track ride in his GTI around Castle Combe on Monday - Good driver too, even if young. 169144-ok.gif
