Has anyone with MkIV had a race/test with a MkV from a standstill to 100mph? Just wondered who got there first and what the gap was like between the two. Stock motors 169144-ok.gif

Did a 20-130 against my best friends standard mk5 R32 (3dr, march 07, with 3000miles)

Mine is a 2003, 3dr, amd remap+exhaust+ kn airfilter, 57k miles.

20-130mph,

nothing in it at all. Totally neck and neck.

Maybe over 100mph, there is a tiny tiny difference, but other than that, our two cars were 95% match for match.

Neither of us pulled away, it was neck and neck.

Subjectively, the mk4 feels faster, and seems to give more top end rush (top rev range), but in reality there is nothing in it at all

Ta Gti. Interesting they are that similar, wonder if the MkV would improve with a few miles. Which one is heavier, the cars that is not you and your mate!

[/ QUOTE ]

mk5 is heavier, by about 150-200kg if i remember correctly.

The mk5 felt really slow in the first 1000 miles. We started thrashing it from about 500miles, and by the time it had 1000 miles, we were caning it.

We unhooked the exhuast flapper, and that seemed to make it feel faster again (it was certainly noisier), but we have recently reconnected it, as it seems to have a better response when you back off the throttle.

I've had my car upto 163 on the gps several times, so I'm eagerly awaiting to see what we can get out of the mk5

The stock cars would show hardly any difference in this test. Sure there is a wight difference and power difference but to see the difference visually would be more down to the 2 drivers having different styles from a standing start, gear change speeds etc.

As long as the MkIV was black and had the right stickers on it, then it would just win all the races though.

GTi_Fly how did you unhook the flapper on the MkV. Been trying to do this myself but can't seem to remove the pipe, don't really want to use too much force.

Is it even worth removing it, or should I just hold out for the milltek??

Thanks 169144-ok.gif

get under the car, at the tail pipes, you will see a rubber hose going into the back box.

yank this tube off, and seal up the ends with something to stop dirt going into the tube.

It's worth doing for a trial, it's a free mod. If u dont like it, stick it back on.

We thought it made the car feel more urgent, (but maybe that was down to the extra noise it creates low down the rev range).
