grdunn123
Have got the A8 booked in to Romax in Stockton to get the alloys refurbished next week. Was told that they can't match the standard silver exactly but they do a range of finishes which got me thinking!! Car is Crystal Blue Metallic, anyone got any ideas if any other wheel colours would work or am I best sticking with silver??
A8_Tony
I'd probably stick with the Silver if it was me, although a polished finish would probably look quite good Have heard good things about Romax, be good to see some before and after pics
grdunn123
wheels are just starting to flake and bubble around the valve which is normal I guess althoigh car is not 5 years old yet.I'll take a few photos before and after and post them next week. Muppet_man
When I used to work at Renault we had a seperate body shop. A couple of times we sprayed wheels the same colour as the car but it didn't look right. Then we found if we sprayed the inside the same colour as the car but left the rim outside of the spokes in silver it looked quite tasty. Just a suggestion. Good luck. grdunn123
They're charging £40 a corner + vat so about £188. Drop off at 8 and pick up same day at 4! I'll have a think about the colour...was thinking anthracite or gunmetal but not sure either would work. Silver is probably a safe bet.
Atomic
Do you drop em off without tyres?
grdunn123
No, just leave the car with them and they do the rest!
PsYcHe
Anyone know a decent place in the Glasgow area for refurbs? Saw a guy on Ebay doing a set of 4 18"'s with tyres but they're 8*18's with 225 tyres.. Are these the same physical wheel size as on the normal 245/45x18 alloys on a 4.2QS (the 6-spoke standard efforts). Or are the wheels a different size? My thinking is if they're about the same/cheaper as getting the nakgkang NS-2s (had Nangkanks on other cars and they've been OK) and getting the alloys refurbed. Price for doing the tyres and alloys is 555+25 delivery (http://search.stores.ebay.co.uk/wheelbase-direct_RS8-Wheels-Tyres_W0QQfciZQ2d1QQfclZ4QQfsnZwheelbaseQ2ddirectQQfsooZ2QQfsopZ2QQsaselZ169418823QQsofpZ0) though as I said, his price for all inc is wrong size tyres for A8. If the rim size is correct, I'll see how much for correct size tyres on the rim and it should be OK as these D3 style rims look OK on D2s from what I remember... Edit.. Redid my math... 7-spoke Sport alloys Would have helped if I'd looke dout the window to start with.
NickGUK
My guess is that, size tyre of 225 /40 x 18 will be about 2.3 % or 15 MM smaller in overall size which is close the max recommended difference to keep the speedo reeding accurate.....WTF he says how he know that just click here and you can play all day with all the sizes you'll ever neeed. It will calculate overall radius / % diff etc etc. My Wheel / Tyre Calculator
