Is there an easy and safe way of doing this?

I've got a 'one touch' cabrio module coming and it states that I need to disconnect the battery before fitting.....unless I can get away with pulling a fuse?

Will I need my security code for my Sat Nav system once I reconnect the battery?

If your not confident of how to disconnect a car battery should you really be wiring up the roof module? coffee.gif

Always remove the negative terminal first as then you wont be able to accidentally short circuit it (or yourself) when you undo the positive terminal... and refit in the reverse order.

I would guess the radio code will need to be re entered but this may be entirely dependant on how long you have the battery off for.

Probably not, if the radio sees the same VIN code from the instruments as it has registered then it will not ask for the code again.

I may be wrong and any of you experienced guys out there please correct me if I am but dont you need the VAG.com software to clear the fault you see when you put the battery back on load ?

Guys,

I have seen advertised, gadgets which you plug into the cigarette lighter and they supply a very low current to the cars electrical systems from a slave battery, whilst the main battery is disconnected, and this is just enough so that you do not lose any setttings in the ECU or other systems.

I think it is called a Memory Master, but it could be a worthwhile investment for anyone who doesn't want the hassle of re-setting codes etc everytime the main battery is disconnected.

Just a thought

Thanks for the comments, now I'm getting even more nervous about fitting this gadget crazy.gif

On the basis disconnecting the battery seems to be beyond my capabilities and confidence levels, I'm left with two choices.....

(1) Pay an Audi dealer to do it

or

(2) Pull the fuse for button/roof mechanism

What do you think?

Just remember NOT to leave the keys in the ignition with the doors, windows and roof closed whilst you disconnect the battery under the bonnet. Keys firmly in pocket is the best plan as our very own John Carter found out to his horror!

I have just had one of those modules and it works really well. I paid my friendly dealer - who were happy to do it and didnt think it should affect the warranty as is didnt interfere with the main wiring harness. I think if you DIY you can end up visiting your dealer anyway to clear fault codes ... not worth it IMHO. There is no remote module yet (for the B7) but I think I will get one when they produce one. 169144-ok.gif

I just received the unit and I must agree, this is not an easy DIY install, quite the opposite in fact.....how much did your friendly dealer quote to install?

£75 I think. I thought that was great given that...

I wouldnt want to do it....

And no fuss was made over warranty etc etc..

And they probably do a very good job .. if I did it the trim would be wrecked ... and the connections would probably fail ... not my thing at all...

I bit of black coating got chipped off the leading edge of the switch ... but that sort of thing doesnt bother me so I ignored it....

Used the roof today twice... its DEF a great mod 169144-ok.gif
